Strength:

Sound, look, digital output, PAL, NTSC

Weakness:

Take long time to initialise and start

I first bought the DV7010. Then, because it was not possible to turn this unit into a multizone unit, I was offered the DV6200. Both units deliver great sound and video. I would like to say to those who are not able to use the remote control for activating the fast forward should read the manual... It is indeed very user friendly.

Strength:

Picture sharpness, tolerant towards 'bad' dvd's

Weakness:

Wrong blacklevels, artifacts in dark scenes, fast forward on audio tracks

Good things first. The DV6200 has HDCD and MP3 decoders on board that should give it an advantage on the audio front. I tried an MP3 CD (320kBit) and thought the audioquality was satisfactory. Scanning the MP3 files was less satisfactory. As the reviewer below already wrote, there is no random playback of MP3 tracks. Also the fast forward scanning of normal audio tracks leaves something to be desired, but for the rest, audio performance was well above par for a DVD player. (Marantz: Because music matters ;-))

Now, concerning picture quality, I'm not that fond of the DV6200. I agree that it delivers sharp images but the videosignal is way way WAY too bright compared to other players. Unfortunately, the player itself doesn't allow you to adjust the brightness so you have to do it in your TV-set and if you're not able to store brightness settings channel per channel (as on my Philips 32PW9525) than you're in trouble. Setting the brightness of the player using THX calibration on the Terminator 2 disk, gives good picture quality for DVD replay but off-air pictures are much too dark. Also, you can see artifacts emerging in dark scenes. It seems to me that there are gray shades missing is some parts of the picture, resulting in an image that looks like it has very low resolution. I also have the impression that this players also shows more motion artifacts than others. I must say that I'm using a European model without progressive scan, but I think Marantz should have used at least a 12 bit 54Mhz processor at this price tag anyway instead of an older 10bit 27Mhz one.

I returned the unit to have it checked by Marantz but I'm already looking for a replacement, maybe the new Denon DVD-1600, not sure yet...

It seems I'm not the only one who got a unit with the brightness problem. I got a mail from someone in the Netherlands with the same problem. He took his unit back to the shop and there they checked all the DV4200 and DV6200 players in stock, all had the overly bright picture. I was really looking forward to a Marantz system comprising the DV6200 and SR6200. I've tried the DV6200 and wasn't impressed and the SR6200 doesn't get good reviews either... bummer:-(

I'm giving it 3 for value because of the HDCD decoding and good audio reproduction. Due to the brightness and other picture problems, I can only give it 2 stars for overall rating. I'm hoping the replacement will perform better, if not, I will trade it for a Denon, Pioneer or Onkyo...

Strength:

Video and audio performance!

Weakness:

The fast forward. (CD only)
Can't play a random mp3.
The mp3 track access is bad.
Plastic disc tray.

I am very happy with the Dv6200! The audio and video is stunning!

Tis is my first DVD player. So this summary will mostly contain the weaknesses I have found, because I can't compare it with any other.

_________________________

The fast forward is crap. It doesn't run smooth, but skips forward with a little pause every half second. Very annoying on high volumes..

Mp3:
You can't select track 59 with the remote. You must skip forward track by track or skip forward (but not back) 10 at a time. No fast forward with mp3s.

You can create a playlist, but I can't get it to continue with the next track after the first is finished!

The 200 file limit is more than enough. No problem to burn 5-7 albums in good mp3 quality. (320Kbps)

Strength:

MP3, Silent running, Same gold colour as former receiver from marantz

Weakness:

No random play of mp3's

4 months ago I bought a Marantz DV7000. This device was so sssssllllooowwww with menu-handling that i decided that I would bring it back to the dealer. When I left the AudioStore I was still very happy. But when i came home and turned on the DV7010 it was like booting a fan. The noise of the runwork was filling the entire room. I went back to the store and traded it for another one. Same thing.

I waited for the DV6200. Once I bought and tested it it was a pleasure for my ears. Picture is great aswell as the sound of the MP3's

If you want to buy a marantz DVD-player only buy the DV6200 it is far out the best DVD-player i ever heard. And the colour is corrected to the proper gold colour. the DV7000 and DV7010 were not the same colour as my PM7000 reciever.
