Strength:

Looks and sounds great, easy to use, gold plated rear terminals, DTS/Dolby support

Weakness:

No CD-R support

I love this player. For $40, can you possibly get better? I got it as an open box item on ebay, and the only defect I found was that there were scuff marks on the display, showing that it may have been a demo or somthing. It sounds and looks great. My only problem with it is that it has no CD-R support. I'm not sure WHY exactly it won't read my discs, even though the manual says that it wont. I see no reason why it wouldn't, so I will play with my CD-Burning program some more and google around for answers.

Strength:

remote is very easy to use; 5 disc changer

Weakness:

dvd audio playback

Well, this product was very disappointing. I ordered two of these, and neither one worked properly. Yes, the unit played DVD videos and CDs fine, but it really struggled with DVD audio, locking up, shutting off, and skipping along. It did this with Natalie Merchant's Tigerlily, Neil Young's Road Rock, and Kenwood itself told me the unit will not play any of the discs manufactured by Silverline (that is quite a few).

So, if you are getting the player for DVD Audio, I suggest you look elsewhere.

I based the value rating on the price for a DVD changer that plays DVD videos and CDs, but not DVD Audio.

Strength:

Picture quality, sounds quality, Outputs, nice remote, easy to use menu

Weakness:

Haven't had any luck playing cdrs or cdrw's although it never says that it does

It may be a year old model, its probably still one of the best DVD players out on the market today. It is well worth the extra 100-$150 from a cheap dvd player to get better sound, and picture. The fast fwd/rev has more speeds to choose from when searching for a specific part and has a very easy to use menu that doesn't take up much of the screen.

You have a choice of analog 6 channel output, 2 channel or digital (coaxial or optical) when connecting it to you system, in my case the Kenwood 4080B.
MSRP 1000$ for $330 when some places were still selling it for $500+

Strength:

Great Remote. Awesome picture no matter what type of TV you use. I have an old CRT 27" (looks great)

Weakness:

NONE !!
No Zoom...(but really who uses it?)

I know alot of you purists are going to berate me for this....but....I'm a major "Kenwood Fan". The value for the buck is unbelievable!

I have the VR-410 Receiver, CD-425M 200-Disc CD Changer and now the DV-4070, coupled with Boston Acoustics Sub, surrounds, fronts and center.....all in all....one kicking system...(highly recommend)

Anyways...I digress...

The 4070 is a great performer....multiple fast forward..rewind exceptionaly clear...great little touches like having several different settings for the front of deck display. Very cool blue lighting effects on display.

Have put several DVD's through their paces...including the fabled "Matrix". Never skipped a beat through the entire movie.

Absolutely amazing all the settings on this machine. From frequency adjustments to setting up your digital sound. I highly recommend the Acoustic Research Optical Cables..great value..fantastic performance(of course being its optical(light pulse)I would imagine most cables would perform similarly(I did however notice a difference between the Acoustics and the optical that was supplied with the unit.)

ALL THE TOYS!!...except for zoom.

Great remote(joystick) a cool factor of "TEN" there. A slight learing curve to using the remote as it has colored setting adjustment for the different features of the machine.

I purchased this machine at Visions for $524 Canadian I got the extended warranty (I sleep peacefull at night :) ) I happened to see it advertised in the Visions flyer at $600 off the regualar price(WHAT A DEAL) even got a free scooter to break my neck on ;)

They had one left in the store. I got the demo. Great value. The extended warranty was practically free after getting the demo reduction.

A $1100 US machine for $524 Canadian....you just cant beat it!

If you have any particular questions about it...feel free to email me.

Strength:

Awesome sound, easy setup, user friendly

Weakness:

None so far, maybe the annoying blue light on front?

I am writing this at 1:00 a.m. as I have finished setting this player up in my music room. I have it hooked up using the stereo analog outs (I do not have multi channel in that room) and also hooked to a Link DAC III with upsampling. I am somewhat astonished at the sound of my first two DVD-A titles (Foreigner, Emerson Lake and Palmer)! From what I can tell this is every bit the equal of my SACD player and the video material is very welcome (still pics, lyrics, etc). But what really has me excited is the CD performance. I can barely tell the difference between the player and the upsampling DAC, and I'm not quite sure at this point which I prefer. For 400 dollars, this is a steal and it lacks nothing.
There are built-in DD and DTS decoders, it passes 96/24 through the digital outs and is one of the if not the most user-friendly DVD players I have seen. A true bargain!
