Yeah, what Paul Clarke said....

(I too posted my review for the XV-SA70BK. Please see that as the 70BK and the 75GD are identical except for the color.)

Strength:

Sleek, small, and very powerful.

Weakness:

Looks like remote buttons should light up, but they don't. haven't used it long enough to finda ny major complaints.

Great product! Full of bells and whistles. All applicable outputs. 3-D Phonic, Dolby Digital, DTS, and much more. Zoom up 32 X. Angle rotation. Sleek design. Only 2" thick!!!!! Very nice. Also has gold plated outputs and inputs on back. full function remote. Progressive and passive scanning.

Strength:

EXCELLENT picture on a mitsubishi hdtv 55" widescreen picture is very, very crisp and clear!

Weakness:

none so far, the owners guide could be written better, but with time you will get the idea!

I have a mitsubishi 55" widescreen 55809 and have been used to the ok but not clear picture of cable.(I'm still waiting for channels to go HD). I was doubting the clairity of my tv until I plugged in the JVC 75gd. The picture was outstanding!!! It was so clear I went out and bought 5 dvd's the same day. The FAST AND THE FURIOUS picture is awsome with this dvd player. I've only had it a month but so far so good. After hours of on-line shopping and going to stores, my choice paid off well! Good job JVC.

Strength:

(I have the larger SA95GD, the 7disc version) An excellent device, combining the qualities of a high-speed changer (7 discs)DVD-audio and DVD video, along with CDR CDRW playback and a MP3 player. i have yet to use MP3s, but they sound like crap anyway. the unit looks really cool and the LCD is really neat too.

Weakness:

DVD audio stipulates that there must be a DSP processor present on the device and channeling the sound out into specific speakers before leaving the unit. This forces the use of surround sound to appreciate the mix. the tray seems to have a mechanism that may fail, yet may last a long time. to cram 7 discs into the size of a player that holds 5 is a challange. THe footprint of the device is huge, but most people wouldnt care about that. I have a space problem with my system. The remote sucsk, but that dosent matter since nobody who cares about DVD audio uses their original remotes anyway.

Excellent investment. highly versatile device, many options, much expansion. somewhat limiting outputs for retro compatibility, but highly useful with future systems. Great soudn quality, awesome picture quality, lousy remote. great deal for the price.

Strength:

Video Quality, Audio Quality, Versatility

Weakness:

none so far

I've been searching for a DVD that's got all the connection types as well as progressive scan, plays MP3's and DVD-Audio, and is reasonably priced. This unit is it!!! Has a nice zoom mode and works well with my 27" TV and receiver. When I upgrade my TV to a wide screen HDTV model and invest in a nice new receiver next year, this unit will fit in perfectly.

Strength:

Progressive output quality, Audio quality, Features

Weakness:

Mediocre interlaced output, limited mp3 functionality, limited changer functionality

I purchased the XV-FA95GD which is the 7 disc carousel version of the XV-SA75GD. Aside from it's capacity (and resultant size), it is identical in function to the 75GD.

First the BAD:
Interlace quality is average at best.
Video quality (as opposed to film) is average at best. Some DVDs (such as Fleetwood Mac the Dance) are unwatchable due to excessive softness.
No changer functions, that is no random or repeat for multi-disc.
No sound in fast-forward. No biggie for DVD, but lame for CD tracks.
No random or repeat for mp3 tracks.
No separate L/R analog outputs (must use 5.1 output section)
Questionable long-term durability of changer mechanism.

Now the GOOD:
Great film quality on Progressive outputs. Well recorded DVDs (like Star Wars PM) are 'near-HD' quality.
Good audio quality.
Quick track access and quiet disc spin.
Packed with features and adjustments for fine tuning like:
Auto-scaling capability.
DVD-Audio capability.
Built-in DD and DTS decoding.

That said I would probably save the money and go for the single disc XV-SA75GD as the changer serves little purpose then to 'stow' other discs while 1 is playing.

The JVC is not perfect and, more than likely, we will see more perfected units in the upcoming year. However, at this point in time, the XV75 and XV95 players are among the best choices on the market. On price-vs-features they are likely THE best deal going.

Also consider the Panasonic RP56 and RP91, the Philips Q50, and the soon to be released Mits DD-8020.
