Strength:

reads many disc formats style quality

Weakness:

None, it's a great DVD player

A very nice DVD player. I had a Samsung before, it would have serious trouble reading DVD-R dics, and would not even try to read DVD-RW. I have a Toshiba SD-1800, which does very well with the DVD-R, but not the DVD-RW. The JVC reads it all. In addition, I love the design, and it feels like a quality product. I use a Philips Pronto remote, so I can't comment about the remote control. The screen saver feature does not work, but then, I bought an open box on eBay for $65, so I really can't complain...

Had a Samsung It would not play CD-RW. E-mailed Samsung about this took them 12 days to answer. By that time I had taken it back to Sears. The salesman recommend JVC It works great. Plays CD-RW perfect and DVD movies.

Strength:

cool design, front panel can be dimmed / turned off, good reader.

Weakness:

price is high in canada, it can't read file names that have characters outside US-ANSI character set (like accentuated letters) -- this is only for mp3/wma/jpeg reading.

This player is good all-around but not "great". DVD Video "auto-detect" function has had problems detecting television type sources (Futurama DVDs). The feature that allows to disable screen icons is cool (for when you don't want to see the multi-angle icon). Image quality and sound quality are good. Sometimes (rarely), there is a tiny pause between scenes that doesn't show up on my computer DVD drive.

Strength:

A silent player with nice design. Exceeds or meets expectations both on picture and sound. Fast and safe reader.

Weakness:

The remote control don't give the same quality impression and the zoom function is slow to handle. The graphic interface is not easy to get used to.

Interesting design. Unfortunately JVC forgot to make a good looking, easy to use remote as well. The GUI takes a while to learn, and can't be handeled by intuition. The mechanism is silent, and the product gives a good quality impression. No complaint about the picture, both blackness, colours and contrast is ok. A slight sound accentuation in low midregister, but nothing more than natural diviation in this price level (It's not high end). It's a good reader. No problems with scratched dvd's.
