Strength:
Great Picture and Sound
Weakness:
Remote a little weak I was shocked to read in here all the problems some people were having. I have owned this player for about a year and have never had a problem at all. Plays great , looks great, sounds great. i bought it when it was just out so I payed a little more than most but I feel I got my moneys worth. No problems here! |

Weakness:
Skipping, total system lock-ups, pixelating I chose to buy a JVC player becuase the other components in my system are JVC, and this seemed to be a natural choice for the integration features and cosmetic matching to the other units. I was originally going to purchase the 501 model, but I saw numerous bad testimonials similar the the ones that now appear on this sight. At the time, there were only good comments on this sight about the 701, so I paid extra to get the 701, becuase I thought this model would be more reliable, despite the fact that I didn't need the on-board digital decoder. I, too, was quite pleased at first, noticing only an occassional half-second puase in most of the discs I watched. This progressively got worse, as I had to skip entire chapters that caused the machine to freeze up or skip around incoherently. On several occassions the unit wouldn't play the discs at all. The final straw was when my excitement at getting the Gladiator 2-dsc set in the mail was squashed by the reality that the special features disc won't play at all. I have reset the system numerous times, usually with positive results, but the system is getting rather tedious to continue to use. I will begin to shop for another brand and try to dump this one on some unsuspecting buyer. Not to worry, I'll fill them in before I make the sale--should make for a rather low price tag, though. |
