Strength:

GE 1101p delivers clear picture

Weakness:

Picture is too dark!
Tv has brightness and Contrast all the way up and playback is still too dark!

GE used to be pretty good but I am beginning to wonder if their new stuff is up too snuff!

Thanks.
Dan

Strength:

3 cd changer is great and the price was nice considering I bought a emerson and 2 apex and had to return them both to wal mart

Weakness:

Loads slow and no power on remote. Thats about it

This dvd player is the first one I've bought that I got home set up and nothing was wrong with it. My pictures never skip and my audio is great. The 3 cd changer is really convienent and is a recommendation from me to any first time DVD owner or something for someone who's on a tight budget.

Strength:

Plays a variety of media including CDR, CDRW and ISO9660 encoded MP3's

Weakness:

No power (on/off) from remote

This review refers to the 5803P model.

Although this is a basic model, and it doesn't feature a fancy on-screen setup menu it is a good value.

The audio system provides adequate dual stereo output. It doesn't support Dolby 5.1, it doesn't have a built in Dolby decoder, but it doesn't have the price of models that do.

The 3 disc carousel is nice for loading a movie or two, or three discs of MP3's.

If you're looking for a basic unit with a few extras without getting too high on price, this is a great unit.

Strength:

Excellant video/audio - remote, price, versatality in playback formats

Weakness:

doesn't play all MP3 formats and MP3 menu is poor

This review is concerning GE5803P.
It definitely doesn't deserve 1, common - may be it is some isolated issue

I'm fully satisified with the capabilities of this player and amazing that it does so much for such a price - great bargain, no prob so far

Strength:

Quite inexpensive, especially as an "Open Box" at Best Buy.

Weakness:

Occasionally skips; Obvious "Jaggies" problem -- aka bad anamorphic downconversion.

What can I say? Go to any Best Buy and see the high amount of "open box" ones for sale. What does that mean? A lot of people are returning them! I've owned one and instantly realized one thing: It's made by Samsung! So, read the Samsung DVD-709 reviews on this site as well, then make up your mind.

Difference between this and the Samsung DVD-709:
Optical Digital Output (vs. Coaxial)
Different Remote (Similar to that of RCA DVD's)
Better looking (opinion only)

After reading the reviews herein, I'm questioning the widsom of my purchase despite the exceedingly low price I paid for "refurbished unit". I've tried just one DVD so far, a purchase, and it worked ok on that, just an occasional skip, but the picture seemed awfully dark. Since the TV is old and doesn't have S connector or RCA jacks, I also picked up a Radio Shack converter but haven't hooked it up yet. The manual appears to have been run off a laser printer, but over half the pages are missing - Duhhh! In fact, I stumbled on this site doing an internet search to see if I could find a manual to download. It seems to be doing fine on audio CD's, only time will tell if this was a good purchase or not. Before I buy ANY item again, no matter how low the price, I will check it out on this site.

Strength:

Heh, not many here tell ya that much.

Weakness:

It just sucks! One weakness is aight, but once you start getting a few it just makes no sense to own this product. Buyer Beware, nuff said!

The overall status of this player is not that well. The features are pretty simple but the TV screen tends to lose its brightness, it comes off and on very lightly but it's noticeable. The player status for reading the DVD's itself takes sometimes forever to load. Simple machine to plug and play but beccomes a total hassle when it's feature presentation time.

Strength:

GE DVD 1105p Good Price and good sound and picture.

Weakness:

Matrix DVD would not work on this player, but I had a free upgrade done by GE and everything works just great now, no problems.

The GE 1105p DVD player is a wonderful value, I did have some problems with the machine before the upgrade but GE fixed these problems for free. I have heard of other people having the same problems but always check with the compnay before you cast it aside as junk. I have see many much more expensive players have the same problems. GE is a great company that makes very good electronics. The story as I heard it was that some of the DVD players where shipped defective, but they are willing to fix the problem for free. All of the new players are bug free...Very good mahine played over 300 DVDS in it and all worked just find after the upgrade.

sound and picture

Weakness:

some flaws but easily overlooked

This is a great player for the price I paid-
Ive had it for over a year and all of the problems
Ive seen from other reviews are from players that I assume do not have the upgrade(mine does). The lip sync problem for instance, I noticed the other night on my Highlander-Endgame DVD that was recently purchased. I reset the player, cleaned the DVD and never noticed it again.
I dont know, it seems people make the mistake of blasting a product over minor trouble that is rare in occurence and easily overlooked.Granted this player will not do some of the things other, higher priced models will (like fast load, dts output),but all in all a great player for the money!
Incidentally, anyone else have trouble with Highlander DVD??
