Denon DVD-557 DVD Player DVD Players

Denon DVD-557 DVD Player DVD Players

DESCRIPTION

Simply calling the DVD557 a DVD player may be an injustice. That's because it does so much more. It also plays CDs and decodes several digital audio formats. With the spread of DVD recorders, consumers are increasingly recording TV programs onto DVD discs. So it's a good thing DVD-R/RW discs can be played back on the DVD557. It also plays MP3 files recorded on CD-R and CD-RW disc. The navigation system shows you artist names and track name, and lets you easily find favorite tracks. The DVD557 also supports WMA (Windows Media Audio) version 9 files. WMA is an audio compression format developed with Microsoft technology. It claims to offer the highest quality sound available in the industry. Also, with its handy JPEG slide show features, the DVD557 can be used to play your Kodak picture CDs and other JPEG image discs. Imagine watching your vacation slide show on your big screen TV! So, as you can see, the DVD557 gives you quite a bit more than just high quality DVD movie playback.

Strength:

Before BlueRay and 4K, the DVD-955 was one of the top-tier video players of its day. It also offers composite video, S-video, RGB outputs along with HDMI, DVI and digital outputs both optical and coaxial. So it remains viable to play and upscale older DVDs--and to output various formats along with 5.1 audio outputs. Yet the top application is most likely for audiophiles as the unit is built like a tank and utilizes high-end electronic parts as well as robust internal power supplies. Apparently the DVD557 is the same as the DVD2910 model. It plays audiophile SADC, HDCD, and DVD audio. Sonically it can be compared to Audiophile CD Players in the $1500 range. These are relatively rare. If you find one in decent condition and are in the market for something good to play CDs accurate, the 557/2910 can be a get bargain.

Weakness:

Initial disc loading takes long.

Purchased this player in a package deal with receiver and boston speakers. The DVD player is broke after 13 month of use, casual use that is. Don't waste your money, either spend another $ 100.oo or so on a good Sony or buy a $ 30.00 player. This is a very low end product.

Strength:

Can't beat it for the money.

Weakness:

Not the last word in DVD/CD players but I am happy.

This is a rather good product for the money. The picture quality is good and the audio DAC is something bordering on the high end. There are better products out there but not at this price. A true audiophile would want a separate CD player for music playback but I am satisfied with an all in one product.
