Strength:

The 1910 is pretty light when you take it out of the box, but it's heavy where it counts: the best image you'll get out any DVD player. The 1080i output will make any of your movies looks very impressive. It has plenty of features like progressive scanning (even in 1080) and several sound options.

Weakness:

Some older TVs with DVI may not be HDCP compliant. Before you buy this product, make sure your TV is compliant because otherwise it will not work at all. Also, it's more expensive than it's Toshiba and Samsung counterparts, but it's worth every cent/

For anyone with an HDTV, the Denon DVD-1910 is a must. I usually don't post reviews of products, but this time I feel extremely good about my purchase. I briefly owned the Samsumg HD841 and that was a big dissapointment, not only because it was a clumsy implementation of, well, everyone of its features, but also because the price was not that cheap either.

Strength:

-Picture quality -Sound quality -Ease of use -Reasonable price=Good value

Weakness:

-Very lightweight, may not be a negative thing but we tend to worry about the quality of parts inside.

I am amazed at how slow the other big guys such as Toshiba,Pioneer,Sony etc are at bringing out a DVI compatible player so as soon as this hit the market I bought it and have no regrets. With upgraded audio/video(Faroudja video/ Burr brown audio) at this price was a good deal.

Strength:

DVI output produces an awsome picture experience. Excellent surround reproduction. Denon reputation for quality. No "Black Crunch" on my Toshiba 57HX83!!! Price.

Weakness:

No DVI cable is supplied with this unit. Somewhat subdued color saturation from DVI output, it is however adjustable. The Remote could be upgraded a bit.

After being disappointed with the results of trying a Samsung DVD-HD841 (black crunch) I looked to an entry level Denon DVD-1910 upconverting DVD player. Out of the box inspection reveals that this Denon follows suit with the rest of the Denon line i.e. minimalistic styling and function. The unit is not quite as deep as a "normal" player but this doesn't seem to effect performance. Build quality is not really up to the Denon standards. It's not poorly constructed, just lighter and smaller than expected. The remote control is basic at best with no provisions for controlling anything but the 1910. When attached to my Toshiba 57HX83 via the DVI input, this player excells in video detail. At 1080I resolution my wife and I are amazed at the picture detail we've been missing from our favorite DVDs. Animated films such as Finding Nemo, Monster Inc., Toy Story 1&2, and Ice Age are the most revealing for the added resolution and video detail. The results produce a picture that must be experienced to be believed. If there is a fault with the display it would be that colors are more subdued when utilizing the DVI output vs. component cables. It's easy enough to increase the color saturation via either the DVD players control or your HDTV. Both DTS and Dolby Digital soundtrack reproduction are very good. Both out perform my Sony DVP-CX985V's analog 6 channel output by a good margin.
