Strength:

Picture & sound quality.

Weakness:

no zoom; and as far as Denon is concerned, it seems a double standard.

From reading the reviews, it almost seems as though there are two versions of this same product out there. I have had no problems with the Denon 1000 with regards to lip sync or poor picture quality. My player is hooked up to a Sony KP-53XBR45 rear projection TV. Trust me! If there were any problems with this DVD player, this television would show it. For the money, this player is highly recomended from me.

Lip Sync and the cheesy remote

Greetings everyone. I know that everyone is taking about the lip sync problem of this DVD 1000 model. Has anyone found a way to fix it? Can anyone point me to the right direction? Please email me at gmsuarez@yahoo.com

Strength:

Minimalist design with strong performance from the audio and video ensemble

Weakness:

Remote is a bit naff.

Super value for the money. Easy hook up with a simple to use layout. Remote takes a bit to get used to in the logic or lack of it in its layout. Loved the fantastic picture quality from this one compared to a Sony DVP-S365D. My Home Theater has been taken to the next level now. Sure shows the capabilities of my Panasonic flat scrren off well.

DVD-1000 very nice DVD for the lowest price, more feature like digital output, and also video component output.
If you look the front of DVD, the buttons so simple and easy to used. Remote control nice and simple.

Strength:

Best picture quality of any DVD unit in this price range, bar-none. Audio specs are superior to many units in a much higher price range. Best sounding CD player I heard at Good Guys (again, in this price range).

Weakness:

Occasional synchronization problems noticed, but I'm convinced it is the mastering of certain DVD's and not the unit that are the reason behind this.

My television is a four year old JVC, with no component video hookups. I bought a Monster Z-series S-video cable which noticeably improved the video quality even over a middle-of-the-road Monster S-video cable.

Performance has been bulletproof: five months and not a single glitch or skip; perfect! Don't pay attention to all of the lip sync notes here... if it becomes bothersome, that is what extended warranties are for.

I personally like the remote, and I think that those who don't like it must have a great aptitude for electronics.

Audio quality

Weakness:

Build quality

I purchased this unit about a month ago in conjunction with a Denon 3801 A/V receiver. Both have performed flawlessly, right out of their boxes. I have watched Jurassic Park, Matrix, The World Is Not Enough, The Fugitive, and several other titles. I have also played several audio CD's on the DVD 1000, and the audio quality is excellent.

But, then I read the reviews of the DVD 1000 on this site. Panic! I did my research, found a local retailer willing to part with an Integra DSP-5 for about $40 less than I paid for the Denon, and thought I'd dodged a bullet. I ran out and picked up the Integra and got the Denon's box out so I could return it within the 30 refund period.

Out of an abundance of caution, I tested the DVD 1000 and the DPS-5 several times on the same disc, with the same interconnects, and with the receiver set at the same volume level. Believe it or not, the DVD 1000's audio quality was noticably better than the Integra unit's (even the Mrs. noticed). Maybe it's because it is paires with the Denon 3801 receiver...I don't know. Also, the DPS-5 had some troubling video noise during each track change.

While the DPS-5 has some nice features, I couldn't justify (1) such an obvious drop in audio quality, and (2) purchasing a unit that was demonstrating a warranty claim waiting to happen. I have had no problems whatsoever with the DVD 1000, including lip synch or freeze up issues discussed by other reviewers. So, I'm taking the DPS-5 back and picking up an extended warranty for the Denon (just in case!).

Strength:

Excellent audio and video reproduction, very easy to use with simple control

Weakness:

can't get it to lip sync like my Pioneer and Sony

Purchased the DVD-1000 today and it's going back tomorrow. Have had this unit since it was first introduced. It has performed admirably with all of my DVD collection including all current dual layer discs including T2 Special
Edition, Gladiator, and others that some on this site seem to have constant problems playing. Setting this unit up is a breeze if your used to setting up HT equipment and even if its your first player, the setup is still pretty easy.
I can't believe how good this unit really is and it is certainly well worth every dollar.

Strength:

Very clean sound

Weakness:

Remote small and not very user friendly

Two years ago I purchased a Denon AVR-3200, Klipsch center, mains, rears, and M&K's 12" with an audioscource 15".

This year I finally bought a Denon DVD-1000. I'm to new to the DVD deal to realy draw conclusions that should base anyones decision on purchasing one. However, I've known since the purchase of my AVR-3200 that it had far more to offer than the Nakamichi tape deck or satellite I had conected to it.

Holy S*IT ! A lot more ! If anyone is considering buying a DVD player, do you're home work follow you're ear and buy one ! As far as the DVD-1000 specifically, the remote does suck compared to my 3200 remote but I'll get over it.

It's mechanisms are also rather loud, I can hear them 15' away at low volumes. However, as mentioned in one of the DVD-1500 reviews, at regular listening volumes it's not a problem in my opinion.

I am very interested to hear what anyone that has had one for a longer period of time has to say. My concern is the problems of "Lipsinc" affect and inability to play certain DVD's (Patriot, T-2, Independance day) that were mentioned in the DVD-1500 review.

I can say I did listen and compare this unit to all units in this price range and in my opinion the 1000 sounds the BEST.

Ratings value would be a 3 only because all Denon is over priced and I could have got a refurbished off the net for a lot less.

Overall rating would have to be a 5 as long as I don't have any of the same problems mentioned for the DVD-1500.

I am a big Denon fan but the jury is still out.

Strength:

Superior to the 1500 in nearly every respect.

Weakness:

Slow load times, typical of every Denon player I've seen.

I list a $0 price because my dealer took back my 6 month old DVD-1500 in an even trade for a DVD-1000. The DVD-1500 had minor lip sync issues, didn't play all of my discs, and got far warmer than I thought it should. I'm pleased to say that the DVD-1000 corrects all of these shortcomings.

I haven't had a lick of trouble with my 1000; plugged it in, turned it on. Plays all of my discs. Sounds very good through my AVR-3801 connected via coax to the digital in, picture quality is well above average on my Mitsubishi TV (I compared it head-to-head with a number of other units, and it was the best at that price).

I only used the remote long enough to program my Pronto, so I can't comment on it. My one complaint is that it doesn't have discreet power on/off codes that I can find online, so I'm left with toggle power control.
