Strength:

small size, easy to operate, great price.

Weakness:

placement of battery on back of unit is rather flimsy and looks as if it could break.

I purchased the 1730 due to it's value for the dollar. I had to return it immediately because the battery wouldn't charge. Costco exchanged it, and everything is fine. It's an excellent unit for the price although the sharpness of the image doesn't seem to be quite as good as Panasonic units I've tried. But it is still an excellent image. I would strongly recommend the 1730 to anyone who is looking for a good unit at a good price.

Strength:

Price, 7" screen, very lightweight, widescreen format, MP3,CD,DVD support, can be used as a dvd player without using the screen, also can hook up video games to the unit. Comes with all auto and home power accessories

Weakness:

Gets hot, lack of control without using remote control, an auto detect feature that would detect the screen format of the DVD being watched and then auto switching to the correct format on the screen would be a nice feature. Speakers could be a bit louder.

If you have kids this is by far the best inexpensive portable DVD player you can get. We looked at the other models in this price range, and was not happy with the screen size, or sound of competing models. Overall this is a good product, but it has a few slight drawbacks in the control section on the actual player, also because of the widescreen format of the player, if you are playing a standard screen dvd while using widescreen mode on the player, the picture will look somewhat distorted. Using the correct setting for the movie you are watching will eliminate this issue.

Compared to the Mintek model in the same price range, this player is by far the winner.

Strength:

Size, Functionality, Battery Life

Weakness:

Screen clarity, Sharpest picture only appears in extra small screen mode.

So far, the machine works well. I am very disappointed with the clarity of the picture. Everything is out of focus. Compared to my notebook that I sometimes use to use movies, it's like looking through my glasses after covering them with grease. The features, functions and battery life are all very good. If I had never used a portable DVD player, I might have thought all of the screens were of this quality. There are many that are better.

I used to have an AIWA that was wonderful before I broke it. I currently used a Fujitsu mini notebook when I'm on the road but I don't want to keep using my laptop as a DVD player.
