Strength:

It turns on.

Weakness:

Skipping, skipping, freezing up, and more skipping.

I must say also that this DVD player sucks. It is my first to own via gift and I have already replaced it to find this player has the same problem. Skipping, skipping, freezing up, and more skipping. I have never witnessed a DVD player in any of my realm's homes do this whatsoever. Therefore, you get what you pay for.

Strength:

feature rich

Weakness:

piece of crap!

This was absolutly the worst DVD player I have ever purchased. I had the player replaced 3 times within 1 month and each player had the same problem. The problem was that the tray vibrated so bad that I had to turn up the volume to hear the audio and at some times the movies actually stopped playing all together. I got my money back and bought a Toshibe - happy DVD guy ever since!!

Strength:

Price Play tons of formats

Weakness:

With this price...None..

It is very good for who don''t need a high-end quality. Sound and picture quality is not bad. It plays almost every formats except DivX. This model is better than APEX AD-1500. Good deal!!! But I''m still not sure whether ComUSA will give me a $30 mail-in rebate back.

Strength:

Did everything it said it would. Had no problems once I figured out how to get it to do things. The manual was understandable.

Weakness:

Haven't found one yet, though I don't think I like the fact that the power light stays on when you turn off the unit with the remote. Still not used to that feature. The unit DOES turn off, but not the light, it's like it's in standby.

My 1st DVD player. It played every DVD so far, no problem. I played CD's and CD-Rs, as well as MP3's. No problem. Have not done VCD yet. The TV it's on is my dad's, which is older. But, the picture is very good compared to the satellite picture on the same set. From what I understand, this unit does not have every bell and whistle, but for a first unit, and for that price, WOW!
All remote functions worked fine. Sound quality seems fine, though, as I said, this is an older, 4 or 5 years, TV (27").
zoom was good, still/pause was sharp and clear.
I would RECOMMEND this unit for any home application where the user is an average consumer. Perhaps not for the high-end user, as it may not have everything. But, a solid all around performer.

Strength:

Clean Crisp Picture
Excellent Zoom Function

Weakness:

Slow Ejecting tray
Slow Playing Movie
3D-Sound was TERRIBLE

All in all the summary comes down to. You get what you pay for. I was impressed with the picture quality of the player it really was CRISP. The sound was so bad in the movies i played. TOMB RAIDER sounded really bad. I tryed everything to get a clean sound without any luck. Hell my VCR does a better job than this dvd player on sound. I tryed playing it with a few movies. All sounded BAD! Maybe its just a incompatable with my equiptment. Idano! All in all $99 bux is a great deal for such a multi-talented player as long as you can live with the sound output. I could'nt so i returned it.

Strength:

Region free hack, Macrovision free hack, firmware upgradeable by user, cool running, HDCD playback

Weakness:

clean those rental dvds before use

if you spend more than $100 on a DVD player, you paid too much.

If you spend more than $100 on a DVD player, and it will not let you change its programming to turn off the region lock, and the Macrovision anti-copying scrambler, you was robbed.

When I read of the region and macrovision hack on the apex boards, I ran down to kmart and snagged one of these bad boys.

I just finished a 6 hour recording session for three rentals that only had a 2 day rental period, and no way was I going to get them back by then.

So if you snag that must see movie, or two or three at the same time, this is the only game in town that allows you to time shift the viewing by recording them for viewing at a later date.

somebody said the sound on 3d was not good. I use the digital out into my preamps, so I never mess with the audio out on these cheap players. For a digital transport mechanism, it is a competent unit. It is a bit sensitive to dirt and deep scratches though, so clean the rental dvd before you play it.

God Bless apex for thumbing its nose at big business control freaks!
