Strength:

Good sound quality, bass that is just right (at least to me), fairly low price considering other DD headphones run $500, multiple inputs.

Weakness:

Constant hissing, static galore (even when i changed channels or moved around), cheap quality...I dropped them once and the left ear muff broke off, and volume just didn't get loud enough on some movies.

Pretty good sound quality and imaging...much better than the Sony 5000 DD headphones. BUT- As the last reviewer said, a constant hissing noise was quite noticable if you were listening to anything that got quiet. Volume just didn't seem to be loud enough on some movies. Overall decent headphones, but AR needs to address the static/hissing problem and make them from sturdier materials then remarket them. Needless to say I returned them. Maybe the new Sony 8000 series DD headphones will be better.

Strength:

In theory, a perfect idea.

Weakness:

Disturbing hiss no matter what channel it was on.

Absolute disappointment. The headphones had constant hiss, ranging from loud to slight background, no matter where I placed the base transmitter and no matter what channel it was on. Something tells me they need to up the mhz to 2.4 ghz. The headphones themselves were fairly comfortable but did not seem to have room for adjustment. They also were a bit warm from recharging, which might be fine for the Winter months, but not so for the Summer months.

Strength:

These headphones deliver movie theator like multidirection sound. This is achieved through the unit''s built in dolby digital decoder. The unit has various speakers built into each earpiece to give a true Dolby Digital exerience. I would rate the effects at 5 stars. This rating was especially justified to me after listing to them for awhile, and then going back to my old (but good quality) "sterio." I would say the multidirection experience is far superior to normal sterio headphones. The Bass on the headphones is surperb. Its deep and definitly has a subwoofer like effect. I love it. The headphones are also comfortable to wear and lightweigt. It is very nice not to be straped to the chair, or to have to wrestle with a cord.

Weakness:

The biggest weakness with the headphones is a huge weakness. The phones are stadicky and buzzy. I''m thinking seriously about taking these back to the store for a refund because of this and wiating until better technology improves this weakness. Also, when I move my head around the phones pop and buzz even worse. So even though Acoustic Research boasts of their new 900 mhz technology for transmition, it leaves alot to be desired. The mannual says that in order to counter this the base unit should be set on as high a platform as possible, and close to where the phones will be used. Well, I''ve tried moving the base around to many locations, and it is close to where I use the phones, only about 5 feet away. However, the phones still pop and buzz no matter what I do. It is clear Acoustic Research''s technology still has to improve significantly in this area. This weakness really ruins the "theator like" experience that one would otherwise enjoy with these headphones. Other weaknesses are the volume doesn''t get loud enough. However, I''ve found that for movies the volume knob set to max is perfect for me. Another problem is the optical digital cable provided is red

These headphones are wireless RF headphones. They have a built in Dolby Digital decoder. You get the headphones, a base unit, rechargable batteries that recharge when the phones are on the base, and an optical cable. The base has three inputs--one optical digital input, one coaxial digital input, and one two prong analoge input. These phones were primarily made for the purpose of hooking up your DVD player directly into the base using the optical digital input. The phones receive their signal from the base unit via 900 mhz technolgy. The mannual and box claims this technology is superior to Infared (IR) technology used in many wireless headphones including Sony''s new Dolby Digital headphones. The base unit also has a 3 channel selector to accompany the 900 mhz technology.
