Strength:

Warm sound, good bass, very nice sounding, comfortable

Weakness:

Price, not as detailed as Grado's

This is one very nice headphone. I really enjoyed listening to it in the store. The sound is very warm and clear. However, it is not as detailed the Grado line. If you haven't listened to *broken-in* Grado's you would never know there could be a more detailed headphone. But the Grado's aren't quite as comfortable and don't look as good. You definately owe it to yourself to check out the Grado SR-2 ($495) and Grado SR325 ($300). The Grado's are more foward and detailed while the Senn is slightly more laid back.

Update: I ran the Sennheiser HD600 head phones for one week, 24 hours a day, via a Pionner Elite CD recorder (I forgot the unit number) and Sony XA7ES CD player. I had to change the CD players every 12 hours because of them heating up the CDs. After one week the head phones have lost their "In your face" type of sound (I normally write "In your face" with loud, up front speakers when testing them, but with head phones maybe I should write "Within your head") because when compared to the Sennheiser 580's, the Sennheiser HD600's were "Too strong" at first. But I knew that with some "Burn in time", the Sennheiser HD600's would lose their edge. Sure enough, after a week, they are now sweet and open, and I never have heard such great sounding head phones. I had my AKG's head phones for too long and I was use to their sound. I was thinking for a long time to buy some STAKs, but they have no local dealer, too much money, and I didn't want to ran a separte phone amp. These Sennheiser HD600's are just right if you have a good CD/DVD phone outlet system. In other words, I buy only good CD players; Sony ES and Pioneer Elite, and I don't know how the Senheiser HD600's high Ohm will sound with cheaper CD players.

I was reluctant at first to move from the rich sounding Grado phones to the Sennheisers. No regrets. These cans are detailed, airy and delightful. Laid back presentation, but very balanced. The thing that most impressed me when I tried the 600's is the spatial resolution they offer. Headphone listening was never so 3 dimensional for me. The headroom processing on my Total Airhead helps this out. One bad thing is that I never knew so many recordings were so bad. These phones are very revealing and they will not make a bad recording sound good. Very good value.
