Strength:
Crystal clear and very detailed sound.
Weakness:
Requires quality recordings and matching CD equipment. Used the HD600 together with a Marantz CD6000OSE KI Signature. Initially, I found that the 565 Ovations were more open than the HD600s with a more spacious feel to them. However, as the HD600s were run-in for a few hours, I began to notice details in my CDs that I'd never heard before. On track 2 of Lene Marlin's CD, one can hear the musicians touching their scores and instruments. When Lene wets her lips, it can be heard as well! However, this emphasises the fact that good recordings are neccessary for this pair of headphones. Mistakes will not be glossed over! Similar Products Used: Sennheiser 320, 470 and 565 Ovation. |

Strength:
If used with a high quality stereo has near electrostatic qualities.
Weakness:
Not enough bass. If I use these headphones hooked up to my Sonic Frontiers Line1 tube pre-amp running off of a Power Plant AC regenerator by a special AC cable, fed by a 5000.00 Goldmund CD player with good interconnects, it sounds good. If I run these off of my PC at work or a portable CD player, they are too revealing and lack bass and are not pleasing to listen to. I own these, but recently purchased the Denon phones for listening to the portable CD player and at work w/ a PC. The Denons lack the in your face transparency, which is a good thing. The bass is excellent. Similar Products Used: Sony MDR V600,700. Beyerdynamic DT990, Denon AHD950. |

Strength:
Transparency,accuracy
Weakness:
none-if you like headphones(and have a good front end) These are true reference sound quality- to match this accuracy in a speaker, you'd spend $10k+ and need a specially built and treated room to avoid room artifacts. From that standpoint, these are not expensive-they're a bargain! I use my two pair at home or office with M-F X-cans v2 amp- very delicious sound, even with a portable CD player as source. These are significantly better than others I have owned. Only the Orpheus is better in my experience(at $13000). Similar Products Used: HD 580's and Grado 325,Orpheus |

Strength:
Great sound, clean and airy but with punch and response.
Weakness:
Cable build These phones have been great but recently the sound started to cut out on one channel. I called the local distributor and the guy said "yes the cables do go on these" - not cheap to replace. |

Strength:
Detail, tight bass, open and airy treble, detail, spot-on midrange and detail
Weakness:
Zilch The best sounding headphones under $2K. I listened to several over the course of 6 months, from a friends Grado RS-1's to the classic series Stax and the AKG 501's. I've read reviews of everything imaginable. I settled on these because of the detail they possess that made the Grados sound closed in. I preferred their non-colored presentation over the more forgiving AKG's and the treble didn't draw attention to itself as it did with the Stax. If there is anything like imaging or soundstaging in headphones, these have it! They gave me the whole truth of the recording without sweetening agents. Bad recordings sound bad and great recordings sound wonderful! At a considerable amount less than the Grados and Stax, I was very pleased that these cans sounded superior. Unless you're a total bass freak or have to have electrostatics, these are the 'phones to buy. Stretch your budget if you must - these phones make me wonder why I listen to speakers... until I walk too far and my head gets snapped back! Congratulations to Sennheiser on one of the very few audio products around that can make me sit up and take notice. Similar Products Used: Grado, AKG, Beyerdynamic, Stax |

Strength:
Incredible clarity and precision of sound
Weakness:
None When driven by the Musical Fidelity X-Cans headphone amplifier, the Sennheiser HD600s give the most fluid and transparent sound that I have _ever_ heard. In contrast, my Sennheiser HD530s are too dry and analytical, and my Grado SR80s (bought principally for portable use) seem "dark" by comparison. The HD600s are also extremely comfortable and beautifully engineered (there is a lesson there for Grado!) I have owned a number of Sennheiser headphones over the years (starting with the venerable HD414) and have never had a hint of the connector problems to which some reviewers have referred. Having been a big fan of Sennheiser for a little while now, I was anxious to try their HD600s. So I went out and bought a pair. |

Are you guys deaf, or what? The HD600's 300 ohm impedance is a great benefit. I can actually turn the volume past 1, without the sound getting TOO LOUD!!! The supersensitive Grados (and others) are TOO LOUD at the "min" setting on even my portables. Ever wonder why there is so much disagreement, whining, sniping, vitriol, disparaging, and complaining? Everyone is listening at levels WAY TOO LOUD. Turn it down, guys. |
