Strength:

The sound was pretty impressive -- I use them with the amp for my bass guitar (so the neighbors can sleep).

Weakness:

CHEAP CONSTRUCTION!!!!!

I have to agree with Mike, below -- this product would be nice, if it lasted for more than an hour. That is seriously how long they lasted, and I didn't even sit on them or drop them! They broke when all I did was stretch them enough to get them on my head. The incredibly cheap construction really is a shame, because they are perfect for what I was using them for -- I plug them into my bass guitar amp for practice. As Mike says, these things will only aggravate you and send you back to the store to swap them for something that might actually work.

Strength:

Plenty of potential.

Weakness:

In order to unlock potential, much tape is needed. And,as I have learned, much tape is hard to come by in this part of world.

The well-meaning review-boy below is like yesterdays piroshki in some ways. No way does a "huge wad of tape around the earcups" look idiotic. This improves sound immensely! After tape they sound just like babushka's Grado SR-60's,only with more details. This is good.

Strength:

Remarkable sound quality, best I've heard.

Weakness:

Flimsy product. I have broken 2 in less than 6 months simply by dropping it and such.

This is a really good product, if you want to hear the good aspects about it, read the other reviews. I will just tell you my personal dissatisfaction with these products.

These products have a cheap plastic construction for what they cost me. I broke 2 (2!!!) just by sitting on one pair accidentally when I got up in the morning, and once when I dropped them on the ground. The problem seems to be centered around some screws holding the earcups to the headframe, this area splits in two, the plastic cannot be screwed back together and is useless. The product after this is completely unusable unless you want to look stupid with a huge wrap of tape around the earcup.

Also, this whole detachable cord is a piece of trash. The connect to the headphone to the cable is like a modem, it has a little piece of plastic that clips into the unit. Well, this piece broke after a while. Rendering the pair absolutely useless because it always slips out. There is no way to replace this product unless you want to go through the hassle of talking to the company and waiting weeks for a simple cord to arrive. If they planned on using this technology, the cord should have been better constructed to withstand the test of time.

This product suffers from these two minor design flaws that completely ruin the whole unit. Two tiny screws that break the plastic, and a modem like cable with a tiny piece of plastic broken that renders it useless. Give me a break, Koss. I am really sick of these stupid companies putting out expensive products which can break because of a very small 1 cent piece of plastic fails. This is not acceptable! A chain is only as strong as its weakest link, the whole unit for this price should have been made of a lightweight metal alloy. This would be unbreakable and would have LASTED.

I would definitely suggest looking at another company's model for the same price as this one. I will still stay with Koss, but the model I have now is the less expensive but steel construction TD-80 model and i really have no complains with this one so far. Also

Strength:

very clear highs, nice mids, comfortable

Weakness:

bass crackling at moderate levels

my previous headphones were an 18 year old pair of sennheisers which my dad baught my mom. I thought they were very good in the bass department but I new they were not as good in the hugher frequences. I look at many headphones(grados, sennheiser) but I wanted cans that could be controlled by portable devices so I went cheaper and more conventional. I was very pleased with the crisp sound from these headphones. they are much clearer in highs than the panasonic 522's but the bass wasn't as good. at low levels it is comparable but the koss cans just can't handle very loud bass but even at moderate levels they can't handle some freq the panasonic 522's handle up to extremely loud levels. I resently baught JVC ga 55 with 50mm drivers and i am blown away by the power and bass they give. since then the Koss don't get as much of my attention. they have more treble but when directly compared they just don't interest me as much.

Strength:

Great sound, good isolation, comfort, and ergonomics. Unconditional lifetime warranty.

Weakness:

Headband padding is minimal

Just got these headphones as upgrade from the $20 Sonys. I was looking to improve sound quality while spending less than $100. After listening to the Grado SR-60s, I was very impressed, but the sound leakage from those is just too much for someone with roommates and officemates he doesn't want to annoy. Maybe I just crank it too much.

So I switched to looking at closed/sealed headphones. Selection is much more limited in this department. Many hi-fi shops I visited had none at all.

The Koss R/80s sound great. The bass extension is excellent, but doesn't sound like cheesy "mega-bass". Just smooth low frequencies. Now I want a sub for my main speakers (NHT SuperOnes). Voices are clear and lifelike.

The headphones, while large and not especially light, are comfortable. The headband is lightly but adequately padded. The cord is detachable and connects to the left earphone. One advantage of the coiled cord, at least in the arrangement of my desk, is that it stays out of the way, rather than dragging across things. I like it.

At $50 or less, this is an excellent buy. With the lifetime warranty, it was a no-brainer for me. 5 stars for value.

These are the best closed headphones I have heard. If I were comparing it to open headphones like the Sennheiser HD600 or even the Grados, I would only give it 4 stars overall, but I don't consider these to be competitors. In my mind, closed headphones are a separate category from open ones. 5 stars overall.
