Without any doubt the best value in the world of headphones. Everything about it sings. It has deep bass, without the unnatural midbass hump so frequently imposed on headphones at all price points by their manufacturers. You can actually feel the drive and rythym of ths music. All kinds of music, from bass-heavy rock to folk to classical, including Mozart on original instruments which is what I'm listening to now. I have owned Grados from SR60 to SR 125, and Sennheiser's 580 and 600 models. Yes the latters give the PX 100 a run for its money, but at five to seven times the cost, and the result is not so clear. Yes the 600 goes deeper, but is it really better? and it is fragile and when it breaks you're out a lot more than if a PX 100 breaks. Which is why I have several "spares" at home, just in case. The reviewer here who said he prefers this model to his 650 is not insane, on the contrary I've been having a hard time justifying the existence of my HD 580.

Caution: Sennheiser has discontinued this model, in favor of the PX 100-II. DO NOT BUY THAT MODEL. It is not remotely as good. They have given it the ridiculous bass hump then prudently denied this model, apparently in the belief that the market demands headphones that can pound out the big bass beat of hip hop. Maybe Sennheiser wants to compete with Dr. Dre and his monster-cable phones. Well I've tried them, and they were surprisingly not horrible, but these blow them away.

The only flaws, if they are such, is that they have no noise-cancelling properties, thus they can't be used effectively while traveling. So, I have a pair of in-ear phones I use for those rare occasions, then when I get where I'm going I pop out the PX 100's again.

Basically no upper end of the sound spectrum.

My laptop blew these headphones on a poorly recorded lecture...

Would NOT buy again.

Le casque d'écoute Sennheiser PX-100 offre un son magnifique avec des basses de belles qualités et une douceur dans le médium et l'aigu tout en ayant une excellente définition.

Le port de ce casque est très aréable. Un cinq étoiles bien méritées.

I paid $39.99 (reg, price) and I feel like I stole them. They made my Sansa Clip sound alot better as I'm sure they would any Mp3. They fold up to put in a case which is nice but it's the clean, accurate sound that grabs you. Blindfolded you'd guess what I listen to, setting tile set me back $500-750 (the Clip with it's eq. and $30 price tag ain't too shabby itself). The PX 100's are the best sounding Headphones I own and I have some very expensive ones. 5 out of 5 easily.

I'm going to join the Sennheiser PX 100 love-in. They are very good, well rounded headphones at a very reasonable price.
The build quality inspires confidence (metal headband, nice heft). I've got Koss Porta Pros (my previous favourite portable cheapie headphones) that have broken and been replaced by Koss 4 times now. The PX 100s have had no issues in the year or so I've used them.
They are comfortable for very long periods of listening. These won't put your head in a vice.
No rattle, just punchy bass and clean mids.

I'm impressed.

Strength:

Sound quality
Build quality
Easily stored in case
Great for travel

Weakness:

Pitchy at times, but only if you're listening for it.
Sounds much better after a break-in period.

When I bought these, I was skeptical as to how good they would actually sound. I've dealt with higher-end Sennheiser and Grado products before, but hadn't really dealt in the portable market. After an initial break-in period of about three or four days, the sound quality was, for their size, phenomenal. For any iPod user, these are a definite step up, and they blow away any set of headphones in the price range.

For me, the trebel was a bit loud, but the bass and midrange are clear and have a strong presence. The is easily heard in rock and metal. Some techno tracks, which are bass-driven, may seem distant, but not annoyingly so. These truly shine in classical music.

However, most people should find these to be a great pair of headphones. They're so light that you might forget you're wearing them. Also, they include a case that is designed to have the cord wound around it, which makes it very easy to just toss them into a bag.

Strength:

Great overall dynamic sound and bass on all volume levels.
Very lightweight, foldable and multi-functional, because of the high sensetivity.

Weakness:

Maybe too cheap (30 Euro) to be taken serious...; try them out and you're 'sold'!
3,5mm plug, so you need to buy an 6,3mm adapter or extension lead.

Geat sounding headphone with solid bass, like switching on a quality subwoofer in your audio system.
They replaced my 'high end' Sennheiser HD-650, because the PX-100 have a better overall balance on all volume levels; I don't understand it for this price, but they do!

Customer Service

I had no need to use them.

Strength:

-Volume level
-Equal amount of bass, treble mid etc.
-Clean bass (not muddy sounding)
-Very lightweight
-Great price
-Uses VERY little power when used with Ipod
-Will fit almost any heads while still feeling comfortable and sometimes you forget their there.

Weakness:

-Sound HORRIBLE when listening to most MP3 tracks downloaded from Limewire Kazaa etc.
-Doesn't handle high frequencies very well when volume level is at max, like when you’re listening to Rush lead Geddy Lee at Max volume.

Great sounding headphones with amazing overall sound. You can easily focus in on every instrument and vocal in the music and is very clean and crisp. These headphones are NOT for someone who downloads their music and expect the quality to be CD quality.

You will hear a BIG difference between a downloaded MP3 and a song ripped straight from a CD. The headphones will also dramatically bring out any crackles hissing etc. that a downloaded track may have. I use these for my Ipod Nano and sometimes I look have around to make sure a sound I heard through these isn't there.

I also noticed that some reviews say you can hear some sounds and instruments that you couldn't hear before, and I was amazed when I put them on and heard instruments and sound effects that I have never heard before.

One last thing is that you can crank these up as loud as the player will let you and you don't have to worry about damaging the headphones.

Strength:

Natural, smooth overall sound.
Great value.
Light and comfortable.
Open air design (in some applications).

Weakness:

Open air desig (in some applications).

I want to confirm anything positive you’ve read about the PX-100 headphones. As a musician with a post-master’s degree in music, I am VERY picky about music. The Sennheisers were my fifth try at finding decent replacements to the stock ear buds with my Toshiba Gigabeat F-40. With everything else I tried, I had to go into the unit’s EQ settings to find something to make the music tolerable. With these, I just plugged them in with the response set at flat and I was AMAZED! I even tried some of it’s EQ settings but they really sounded fake and phony.

My Toshiba has a wide range of music on it and the PX-100’s came through like a champ on EVERYTHING I tried; solo piano, rock, fusion, jazz combos, jazz big bands, classical, or pop. As a bass player, I’m again very picky. Instead of weak, thumpy, or undefined bass playback I got with other units, with these the bass is tight, clean, and extended. Even the notes on the low B-string of a 5-string or 6-string bass guitar came through great!

I found that I heard things in my music I had missed before. The sound is so smooth and the phones are so comfortable, I found I can listen for long periods of time with no listener fatigue.

Also, the open design works for me. I can use them in running or biking without worrying about getting hit by a bus. I find that when I’m wearing them around the house, I don’t have to say “Huh?”…”What?”…”Huh?” when they talk to me. However, if you need to block out the outside sounds (airlines, noisy rooms, etc.), then obviously these are not for you.

Whatever price you end up paying for the Sennheiser PX-100 headphones, they are a great value. Even if you’re picky like me, I think you’re in for a treat with these!
