Strength:

bass, treble

Weakness:

bass,pads

Believe it or not at low volumes it sounds a lot
better than even GRADO SR-125 coz it has
bass, mid range and highs. the grados dont have
bass at all. even theor mid range is weak.

KOSS has lots of highs. There is a bit too much bass. if this has just a little bass I would given 5 Stars. but
you can always turn the bass on your receiver
down or better yet set the main speakers on your
receiver to "small" if you hear too much bass, especially
on songs on "Human Clay" by Creed.

I did one thing. I added the pads from my old
kenwood headphone. this moved the piece a bit
away from my ears and reduced the bass. I guess if
I put a pad like the GRADOS, the KOSSS would sound
great. so I am looking for such ear pads.

for just 30 bucks it is worth every cent.

dont buy the GRADOS. for $150 SR-125 sounds like
crap with absolutely zero bass. buy KOSS SPORTAPRO
and add extra pads

Strength:

Great Bass, good mids, comfy, good design, life time warranty

Weakness:

ugly........very ugly and the bass at time can be to much

very good sound, strong bass actually a little to strong, i have to take off the bass thingy on my cd player to listen to the song. also sadly its butt ugly but great sound and price makes up for it. i would recommend it, but also try the sportpros too, it may be better looking and cheaper.

Strength:

Great sound for casual listening and while walking with no fatigue for hours! Love the look...

Weakness:

Feel cheap....but seem to be sturdy

When comparing them to the crap that passes for headphones included with most portable CD players, these things are fantastic! They have completely changed the walking experience for me. They feel great, sound great with good bass extension. Perfect for the music I listen to when I walk. On most cuts, any bass enhancement has to be turned off or it becomes distracting...muddies up the whole thing. Turntable mixing was great, as was AC/DC, everything just sounded a whole lot better. I'd say they are great headphones for under 100 bucks and to get better sound, you'd have to move up to portable amp/phone combos. These are not serious hi-fi headphones, but a great way to make a 50 dollar portable CD player sound like a thousand bucks! Absolutely no fatigue after two hours of continued high-volume listening...that says a lot in my book. Just get em.

Strength:

funky design...obviously bass...portability...

Weakness:

fragile...cheaply made? expensive!!

i dunno why everyone is complaining about the style and design of these brilliant things...unless your stuck in the late 90's....if your looking for some space-aged-sleek-alien headphones...then put on your oakley sunglasses my fiends and transport back to the pre-millenium days...but if you are living in 2002...and want to not be left behind...live in the future with these amazing porta pros!!!! They are so retro and stylin'...definately unique...props to koss's design team...i'm so sick of those streamlined black headphones...they're so tacky. These porta pros have the look that will turn heads. and i won't talk about the sound...cause that's already been covered in here. I just wanted to say that i just got these...and i am sooo happy with them...except they feel like they're gonna break any second...although it doesn't matter with the lifetime warranty HA!!! and those comfort zones are stupid...but they do fit very snug...and it makes them look like they have some special features over the ears...anyway...i think for what they are...they are super! if you don't want big earmuffs...but you want deep sound for electronic/house music...then get these!!! you won't be disapointed househeads!!!!

Strength:

massive bass.

Weakness:

none

the sound is incredible, and they`re comfortable. the sound is very clear and exact. for ex. a couple of days ago, i was walking through the canteen, and the bass was like walking in a disco, it really was amazing. it was like the sound sorrounded me and everybody was listening, though it was only me that participated.

Strength:

Pretty comfortable.

Weakness:

Sounds bad. Excessive bass, recessed mids.

These are overpriced, bad sounding headphones. Excessive bass, and recessed midrange that make them sound like you're listening to the music through a tube. These weaknesses would be at least partly excusable if the Porta Pros didn't sell for fifty dollars. Low end sound for a high end (as far as portable headphones go) price.

Strength:

Not much really, guess they are acceptable for the price.

Weakness:

Sound like the music is in your head, bad bass compared to most other headphones i've tried.

Everyone seems to love these headphones so much, and they win just about every headphone review i've ever read, so when i had the chance, i borrowed them from a friend of mine.
And...
What is all the fuzz about?!?

There bass was not at all impressive, i actually felt a lack of bass, and felt that for the first time i'd need to touch the tone controls on my amplifier.
All the music seemed to be inside my head, which i did not enjoy.
The midrange and treble was okay, but nothing that makes me feel like i want a pair of these.

I though that maybe there was a fault with the ones my friend had, so i went to a hifi store, and tried the ones they had there.
No difference.

My own Vivanco SR-250 has a better overall sound, it sounds like the music is around you instead of inside you...which i think is better.
The bass is much deeper, and better defined, and there's more of it.

I can't really recommend a pair of Koss Porta Pro's to anyone who wants high-quality portable sound, unless you really like the design or something.

Strength:

BASS! BASS! HELLO BASS! Sound quality is better than practically anything that costs less than $50

Weakness:

Distortion at moderately high volumes (more of a quality-control problem with my sample than anything wrong with its design); mids and highs are just average

Don't believe those one-star ratings! If you think that the Porta Pros are bloated, boomy and muddy, you are @#&^%^$ wrong. But please, use them with GOOD portable CD players, not crappy underpowered supermarket ones. There are way better headphones out there, but for under $50, these things rule!

I thought these things were a piece of cr@p - until I found out that the pads that originally came with my sample of these headphones were too thick and dense (that could be the cause of some of my @#&^%^* remarks). At least you can buy replacements from RadioShack - which are thinner and less dense, thus opening up the sound.

Though my sample had a nickel-plated plug, currently-shipping versions of the Porta Pro now come with a gold-plated plug - which should make a fine product even better.

The Koss Porta Pros are, after all, sub-$50 headphones, and though they may not sound nearly as good overall as way more expensive cans, they simply rule in their price class.

I have had these headphones for a few years and the are great with my portable CD-player. They are easy to drive for all kind of equipment. The sound is far more impressive than you might think of them when you look at them.
The sound is very dynamic and with a powerful bass. They might sound too warm for some, though not too warm for my taste and they go great with all kinds of music!

I recomend them too all people who are looking for an upgrade to their portable CD.

After hearing about so many people recommending this headphone, I decided to go and try it out in the store. I did not have very high expectation since it looks pretty flimsy, but boy was I wrong!! The sound that comes out from this little can is amazing!! I bought it right away and have been happliy using it on my portable MD and CD players for the last 8 month. Oh and it is pretty easy to carry it around since it is clapseable.
