Strength:
Awsome sound, the best headphone for $100, sound even better than some high end head phone from other companies.
Weakness:
the plastic look kind of cheap, doesn't seem to be very durable but I only have it for 1 day so I can't make judgement. The ear bowl can be a little discomfort After doing intense research about the best headphone for the money, I tumble across grado labs product. A name that I haven't heard before, but since all the review was overwhelmingly positive, i decided to give it a try and boy it was worth it. I'm not even done with the break in period yet and the sound s already amazing, probably one of the best sound that I've heard from a headphone. I've try many headphone before and own bose qc along with shure in ear and this is even better. The sound is clear, the bass is tight and not weak at all, I can't wait to see how much better it will be after 30 hours. Highly recommended Customer Service don't know yet but inside the box only said 1 year warranty Similar Products Used: senheiser hd 280. bose tripod, QC 2,3. and shure in ear |

GREAT SOUND
Weakness:
some mild ear discomfort may occur after many hours of use
Hello music lovers. I can't say I have extensive experience with headphones, so the fact that these Grado SR80's are, by far, the best I've ever heard may not be the end all be all of opinions. However, I do have a somewhat "high-end" 2 channel stereo system featuring the Italian-made Zingali Overture 4 floorstanding speakers, which, if anything, means I am well aquainted with excellent sound reproduction. Also, I've been a musician for about 25 years or so and consider myself to have a fairly discerning ear.

Strength:
comfortable, great clean sound, decent bass, not tiring to listen to.
Weakness:
sometimes i want more bass but that is a function of being around car stereos. these are meant for listening not thumping. after a long backorder, 4 weeks, ive finally got my new 80's. out of the box they are extremely clear. there is no muddiness and its way easy to understand lyrics that have been garbled for years. the timbre of instruments, particularly the cellos and bass are magnificent. i think grado must have upgraded the comfort thing because these babies are hardly noticeable and i have a big noggin, 7 3/4. the only thing im wondering about is i am reading some about the senn hd 485 now and i hope that the grados are superior because the senns are cheaper and ive heard they compare or exceed. time will tell but i am definitely pleased with these headphones and am looking forward to them opening up after break in, since they already sound better than any headphones i have ever listened to. Very comfortable, easy to adjust. Sound is very open and detailed. I run them with my series 3 iPod. It's a wonderful combo. Will probably live with them for a while and then spring for a more expensive pair.
Weakness:
Cheap looking plastic enclosures but functional. Love them. As good as or better then Sennheiser HD-500's. Get them from www.sound-room.com. He has them in stock with free shipping! Similar Products Used: Sennheiser HD-600. |

Strength:
Near perfect tonal balance. Glorious mid-range. Sound good with just about any piece of music or equipment. Near-zero listening fatigue.
Weakness:
Can get uncomfortable during long listening periods. These headphones transport you directly to the heart of the music and don't let go. They are, in my opinion, one of the most exceptional pieces of audio/music gear available, regardless of price. I've owned these headphones for 6 or 7 years. In that time I've made countless upgrades and changes to my stereo system with very mixed results. But one thing has remained constant over the years: when I plug the Grados in, I'm instantly absorbed in and moved by the music and I stop thinking about whether the music is 100% accurate, or whether I'm hearing every last detail and nuance (the Grados are, as it happens, very good in these areas). To me, these headphones mostly transcend quantitative analyses and bring me in direct contact with the music, whether I'm plugging them into an $8k stereo system or an i-pod. I cannot think of higher praise for a piece of music gear and I can't think of any other piece of equipment I've auditioned or owned that I can say this about. I own a pair of Sennheiser HD650 headphones as well. They are, in their own way, exceptional and definitely a good choice if you're looking for headphones that can capture the space around the musical event or if you find Grados a little to "in your face" and prefer a slightly more distant perspective and/or better high-frequency extension. Personally, I keep coming back to the Grados. Music lives primarily in the mid-range and IMHO Grados are unequaled in this area. Similar Products Used: Sennheiser, Koss, AKG, Sony |

Clear warm sound Powerful airy rounded Bass they can handle all genres of music Also great with movies.
Weakness:
Not very comfortable after 2 hours of listenning. I've owned so many headphones that I've lost count. I did read alot of reviews before buying the SR80s and everything that was said by the reviewers is true. Incredible sound and they do take a day or two to break in. They are not very comfortable though, after listenning for an hour or two my ears started to hurt. Don't let that put you off though, you won't get better sound. Some people said the bass isn't strong enough. Don't listen to them, they must have hearing problem, the bass is so strong that you feel the vibration against your ears. Although they sound great with portables, you will need a good sound source to get the best out of them. I tested them on my PC with a Creative Audigy 4 ZS platinum soundcard. For software I used Intervideo WinDVD 6.0 to play MP3s, Movies and CDs. I listen to all types of music Dance, trip-hop, Rap, Rock, Classical, Jazz, Pop and Country. These headphones can handle everything with amazing clarity. It's like listenning to a high end hi-fi system. Highly recommended. |

Strength:
Detail, impact and immediacy are hard to beat, regardless of price. You feel like you're monitoring a recording session rather than listening to a recording
Weakness:
Can be bright/harsh; close-up perspective might be fatiguing to some. And there's that Grado headband. I'm going to join the chorus of reviewers who call these the "best buy" of the Grado line. Use them with a proper setup and they'll really shine, but they also work well with portables. I rediscovered the SR-80s, which I'd given my wife as a birthday present a few years ago, after plugging them in on a whim the other night. The immediate result was that I couldn't stop listening. They convey a wider, better defined and more three-dimensional (although less airy) image than the much more expensive Sennheiser HD590s (modded with a heavy-duty cord) I own; voices and instruments sound more lifelike and immediate through the Grados. They beat the pants off the Senns in terms of pace, rhythm & timing, at least in my setup. I'd actually sold my two pairs of Grados a couple of years ago after deciding that they really weren't the best for classical music, but now I'm rethinking that pronouncement. You'll get more of a sense of being onstage with the musicians than seated in the 10th row as you do with Senns, but you may find the up-close-and-personal perspective more involving, even with heavily scored symphonic music. A major change from my previous Grado experience is that I now use a (tubed) preamp along with a headphone amp; using the pre opens up the sound-picture considerably. I'm hanging onto my Senns, as there's room for both close-up and concert-hall perspectives in headphone listening, but I'm glad my spouse has semi-permanently lent her SR-80s to me, as she hardly uses them anymore. I know I'll be getting lots of use out of them! Similar Products Used: Grado SR-60, SR-125, SR-225; Sennhiser HD-570, HD-580, HD-590 (with Stefan AudioArt cord); AKG K-501 |

Strength:
Extremely accurate. Flat and pure sound. No headaches from loud volumes over extended periods. I have read almost every review of these before I bought them. I needed to replace my 15 year Dennon's that died. While there is no disputing the sound, I think these are also very comfortable. I have a small noggin and find these very comfortable. They are light and stay secure on my head. Well recorded music will sound awsome! I wish I still had mu turntable and master albums so I could get the true sound from these cans.
Weakness:
As bove, extemely accurate headphones. You will hear it all including the bad. No external noise reduction. You can hear things external, and external things will hear you. Cord is very long. This could be good for some, but not needed when using my iPod. The only choice for headphones under $95. |
