Strength:

excellent sound quality for price!

Weakness:

not much sound isolation

I bought these headphones last year from Headroom and was just amazed at the sound quality. If you have been listening to music thru Sony headphones, or anything you can buy at Best Buy for that matter, you haven't listened to music. I let my friends listen to these and they are amazed at how good they sound. I listen to rock, jazz, and classical through these cans and they sound excellent. Listening to rock is especially enjoyable because of the eye-blinking impact the drums have. The only problem i have is that these headphones act as a mini-radio at high volumes--there's not much sound isolation.

I just wish more people knew about these headphones, because I know everyone's reading the Sony reviews instead of little-known Grado here. These are head and shoulders above Sony.

Do yourself a favor and get these--you will love them. For $69 you can't go wrong!

Strength:

incredible sound quality
excellent value
efficient enough for battery powered CD players

Weakness:

do not insulate sound from the headphones, as well as outside noise, very well

I love these headphones. The sound quality is just amazing. I've heard good sound before, but I had never heard anything really great until I got these Grados. You can hear minute details in the music that would oterwise be missed. Everything sounds very natural, like you're hearing the music just as it was meant to sound. They're not at all fatiguing to listen to, but they're definately not dull either. I've listened to a pretty wide variety of music on the SR60's, and they do well on everything. I was surprised at how well bass is reproduced on them as well.

Many people seem to say the SR60's are somewhat uncomfortable, but I haven't had any problems. If they're to tight you can just stretch the metal headband out a bit. The SR60's are efficient enough to sound great with portable CD players, even when using them with batteries. I think their only weakness is that they don't insulate sound very well, they tend to project it out. In the same way, they allow outside noises to be heard fairly easily...the SR60's are pretty much worthless on an airplane, for example (but that's why they're noise cancelling heaphones).

Perhaps the best thing about the SR60's is not that they sound so good, but that they do it while being so cheap. I thought I was being extravagant buying these until I heard them. For how good they sound, they ought to cost 3 times as much. I can honestly say that my SR60's were the best $70 I've ever spent. =)

Strength:

Very sweet sound reporduction. Very good to excellent detailing and very good Stereo Imaging

Weakness:

Slightly timid midrange but this is a very subjective viewpoint.
Its not a major weakness to me though, I'm just listing it for the sake of nitpicking in this review :)

I bought this pair of headphones after testing them at the shop. Needless to say I was very impressed with how it handles all sorts of music. It is very much on par with the Sennheisers in terms of faithful reporduction of certain instruments like guitars. Its not able to give you the 'live soundstage' feeling (but what headphones can?) but it comes fairly close I believe. The most important factor for me is that my discman drives the Grados without any problems. Also, listening at low volumes still gives a lot of satisfaction which cannot be said for some brands/models of headphones. Overall, the best way to see if you like it is to try it for yourslef. One note of warning though, for people who are addicted to piledriving bass piped thorugh their phones, this is probably not the right pair of headphones for you. Its orientation is blanced and people who appreciate that kind of sound will appreciate this pair of headphones.

Strength:

Beautiful Sound, Warm but not harsh

Weakness:

When bass boost is pushed all the way up on my MD, the lower end rattles

Count me in as another Grado believer. Bought them on Ebay and could not be happier. Only problem: cord is too long. Low bass rattles the phones too. Other than that fantastic. Buy them, do yourself a favor.

Strength:

Warm sound

Weakness:

None(I just wish I could get this sound in a closed headphone)

I admit that I'm a headphone freak and own several models. I purchased these headphones because I own other Grado models and wanted a Grado model I could use with portables. I use them with my Panasonic portable CD player and my Sharp MiniDisc player. Bottom line is these are the best headphones at the price and could cost much more and still be worth it. They have an overall warm sound which I prefer. I especially like using them with my Sharp MiniDisc player because it has a 3 position bass selection.
I give the Grado SR60 headphones 5 stars because that is the highest I can go.

Strength:

Great sound for the price

Weakness:

Can be harsh sounding at times, Bass shy

These are so much better than any headphone I had ever heard that they opened my ears to what was actually possible from a headphone. W O W ! ! But. . .

Although the SR60's reveal great detail and have a truly wonderful midrange for such an inexpensive price, they are a bit bass shy. Not that bass is absent, it's just not as strong as it should be. Also, on some recordings, there was a slight harshness that was disappointing, at times.

In sum, these are definitely a great headphone for a mere $70US, but in competition with its big brother, the SR125, the SR60 falls short. These should definitely not be overlooked by anyone who wants great sound from a headphone under $100US. The SR60's are a true bargain - a Price/Performance ratio unmatched by any headphone, in my opinion.

Strength:

Wonderful sound, cheap price, ease of use

Weakness:

can't think of any

I knew I wanted a pair of headphones for listening to computers and portables, went to Headroom, and picked these out based on reviews here and on the sales site itself. WOW!!

Yehudi Menuhin sounds like he's performing that violin concerto right in front of me. The music has come alive. Thanks Grado!!

Great Christmas present for anyone who enjoys music.

BTW, they really do sound better after about 20 hours of play, and the headband shaping suggestion is right on.

Headroom has great service and an excellent guide to picking the right headphones.

Strength:

Sound quality (especially with the donut-shaped pads), very low price compared with other headphones of similar sound quality, phenomenally high sensitivity

Weakness:

Clunky styling, cord too thick for easy portability, may leak too much sound if volume is turned too loud

I just received my Grado SR60s this morning -- and WOW! I was blown away by them! Bass that sounds like bass and not boom; mids that sound very clear and detailed and not can-like; highs that sound like highs and not sizzly... yummy. And I haven't even burned them in yet!

And on to the sensitivity: Unlike the Sennheiser HD495s which I had purchased and returned to the same place that I bought my Grados from, 98dB on Grados sound more like 118dB (put it in the opposite direction, 106dB on the HD495s sounded more like 86dB)! Which means that while the Senns are better for home than portable, my Grados are the ONLY headphones that I will be using for both home and portable.

Compared to my highly-rated Sony MDR-V900s (which sounded very much like the Grados with the standard comfy pads except in the bass region), the Grados with the donut pads are a revelation (although the donut pads add $15 to the price of the SR60s, making the total $84 plus shipping). And with either set of pads, my SR60s feel nowhere near as uncomfortable as many reviewers have stated. (Perhaps I have small ears, making my Grados with donut pads almost circumaural in fit.)

Now for the styling: It's a love-it or hate-it type; the Grados look like someting out of the 1950's (but I find them nowhere near as ugly as some of the overly flashy Sony Street Style headphones -- the worst-sounding of which is the $50 MDR-G82LP).

So do yourself a favor: If you have a good portable CD player (such as my Panasonic Shockwave Metal SL-SW850/860 or the Sony CD Walkman with G-Protection models D-EJxxx), please hurry up and spend the $69 ($84 with optional donut pads) for these Grado SR60s. Your ears will thank you for it.

I judge the SR60s excellent with the donut pads, very good with the supplied comfy pads.

smoooooth, detailed sound

Weakness:

high volume anemia

Yes, there are better headphones. Yes, they will cost you three times the price of the SR-60's. The SR-60's are the only way to get a taste of that warm, rich, detailed sound that audiophile junkies crave for less than the price of a set of interconnects.
