Strength:

Very crisp sound, fills your head with the music. Just right in all areas.

Weakness:

Somewhat quirky design.

Well, I must say that these headphones are well deserved of their reputation. They sound SOOO much better than all other headphones that I have listened to. I bought them to go with my HipZip MP3 player (which is also excellent) and they have not disappointed me. Perhaps the only flaw I have found is that if the MP3 was not recorded correctly, you can tell the difference. This of course speaks to the exceptional quality of these headphones. For the value, I would give them 10 stars if I could. If you are looking at a pair of 40 dollar headphones, do yourself a favor and splurge on these. If you are looking at a pair of 150 dollar headphones, do yourself a favor and check these out, they will more than likely do everything you want, for a lot less money. I honestly don't think there is a better value on the market. If you are going to work out with your portable, you might want to do what I did, which is buy a cheapo pair of sony sports headphones, and then these for when you just want a HiFi experience. My little MP3 player powers them easily, with tremendous response with both bass and treble. I listen to them everyday!

To be succinct, these are simply the single best audio purchase I have made in a very long time! While I have only owned these for a short time, I spent a number of hours/days auditioning the headphones mentioned above and was astounded by the SR60s. Run through a Rotel amp and CD, my auditioning music ran the full range from techno, electronic, vocal, classical and jazz. At each change-over, the SR60s just sang to me.

The Senn HD495s cost twice as much and sounded half as bad. Very muffled, almost boomy bass, low sensitivity and simply a general lack of detail. The HD580s were a definite improvement but for the money, there was no comparison, however the SR60s gave even these a challenge in performance.

With the Grados, in obvious exception to the cost/quality/sound of the RS1s, I felt the SR60s excelled again in all categories. I went back and forth between the 60s and 80s looking for weaknesses - I found none. When listening to Wynton Marselis Septet Live at the Village Vanguard, I felt as though I was in the room. Extremely live and almost painfully clear! At home, the SR60s are magnificent. At work, even on a crappy discman, they take me away. I am confused with the previous comments regarding the lack of bass in these headphones. I found just the opposite and of incredible quality and texture - more even that the SR80s. My opinion? RUN, don't walk, to get these headphones. For the dollar and even more, I heard no better buy.

I am faced now with the joy of listening to each of my CDs again as if it were for the first time, redefining what I had already heard, and discovering what I had not!

When I first heard the Grado SR60’s I listened to them just because I had heard phono cartridges by Grado and was impressed. At the time, I was not interested in purchasing headphones but was curious as how Grado’s headphones sounded. I was pleasantly surprised by their clarity. I tried the five top models of Sony headphones (the only other brand at the store) and found only one $120 pair that was even in the same ballpark in sound quality, but they were still not as good as the Grado SR60’s. Several months later I decided I would try to buy some headphones for about $40 for portable listening. I listened to several brands Koss, Radioshack, Sony, ect and purchased a pair that suited my need’s. I then heard the Grado SR60’s once again and found that they heavily outclassed the pair I just bought. I decided I couldn’t live without them, negotiated a deal, and promptly returned the other headphones. The Grado SR60’s are great for portable use; even the more expensive model Grado’s don’t sound as good plugged directly into a Diskman. Possibly the best deal in audio, at least what I’ve heard. I consider this purchase even better than the mere $1000 I paid for a new set of Paradigm Active 20’s.
The Grado SR60’s look cheap but their sound and surprising durability more than make up for it. Despite claims of uncomfortability from other owners I never had this problem with mine.

I have been listening to a pair of SR60 hours every day for over a year (mostly with a Panasonic SL-S320 portable, occasionally with older amplifers). They are better than what came with the player, fold flat to fit in backbacks, and nothing to get excited about.
The highs are an attempt at best, fatiguing at worst. Details are smeared and sometimes abrasive. Bass is missing, midrange not bad. Oddly I find them fairly comfortable to wear, particuarly in hot weather (Senn HD580 are sweat bands).

For high end clarity, portability, and small price tag I find Koss's new Titanium (AKA Radio Shack Pro35) cans pretty sweet and smooth, but with even less bass. The high and mids on these put SR60 to shame.

For the money there is a lot worse out there, SR60 are not that bad, but not that good either.

Strength:

Inexpensive, great sound

Weakness:

None really

The Grado SR-60s are much better than comparably priced Denons and Koss phones I had.

The bass is much more accurate than with the Koss and Denons which were around the ear designs.

They are pretty comfy. I find I have to take them off at least once every 30 minutes, but that is typical.

They work well with a portable CD player (e.g. discman).

One of the channels stopped working. Many heaphones suffer from hard use in a work enviroment used with a discman when the stereo jack is not L shaped. Grado replaced the headphones in a timely fashion no questions asked. Pretty great when you consider replacing the headphones probably erases any profit they made on them.

The SR-60's get my component of a lifetime award.

Strength:

Sweet, clear sound, amazing Price

Weakness:

For me, none.

When these phones arrived via UPS I could not have been more dissappointed. They sounded bright, thin, weak bass, just incredibly blah considering the rave reviews. Lucky for me my old phones had just bitten the dust and I was forced to use them as I like to listen to CDs when I take my dog on his daily stroll through the woods. Every day they sounded a little better and after two weeks I was stunned, they are so sweet sounding without a bit of harshness and excellent depth. I honestly didn't believe that break-in ever made all that much of a difference, I was really, really wrong. 7 months later and I can honestly say that I don't think I have ever gotten so much pleasure from a mere 70 dollar expenditure.

I was going to buy myself another inexpensive pair of headphones, but after reading all the reviews, I decided to spend the money and get the Grado SR-60s. What a difference in quality. Music and games come to life, and subtle background sounds you never knew existed are now clearly audible. I've never been a big headphone user, but after hearing these for a while, I'm definitely going to be using them more often. My friend made fun of me for spending $60 on headphones, but now that he's tried my new Grados, he wants a pair too :-). All I can say is that if you're in the market for new headphones, even if you're just a casual listener, the Grado SR-60s are well worth the money.

I bought these headphones to replace the ones that came with my portable unit. They far exceed my expectations and are easily worth the $75 I paid for them. The bass is very good and now I can listen to relatively distortion-free music when I work out.

BTW, these are quite comfortable. I think Grado finally responded to the complaints people had about the comfort of their previous units as seen in earlier posts.

I'm not sure I understand a lot of the critism of these headphones. I have found the headband to be very comfortable. Moreso than many more expensive headphones on the market, which will usually end up hurting my ears after 30 minutes of listening. I can wear these for an extended period because #1. they are extremely light and #2 you can mold the flat top part if you like them wider.

I got this product at Magnolia Hi-fi, a local electronics store with a large selection of audio equipment. And I must say, when we compared these to the $100-300 Sony and sennheiser headphones, we were shocked to find out how much better the entire Grado line sounds. While its true that the bass is weaker than other headphones, you must also temper that with the fact that too much bass can drown out and muddy all of the audio.

The overall audio quality on these are amazing. We tried at least a dozen headphones and we decided that the Grados were far superior and at a substantially lower price.

As a side note, these headphones sound better as it becomes more broken in. So try to test out a pair that isn't just out of the box.

Strength:

Price, Sound quality, fold flat for traveling

Weakness:

For $69, I'm sure you could not even come close to these headphones in sound quality. I did not have the chance to listen to them before I got them, but I am very happy and suprised by the sound quality for the price. These sound a lot better than any of my Sony phones, and better than most Sennheisers I have tried, even much more expensive ones.
