I know I shouldn't expect great sound from an inexpensive pair of headphones. However, I ordered the SR60's from Audio Advisor without previous auditions and have been very disappointed. Honestly, I've heard better sounding headphones packaged with personal stereos. The SR60's essentially have no base and and very incoherent mids and highs. Please don't make my mistake- audition before you buy.

These are the best headphones you can buy at $69.00 They are a real bargain! I tried there more expensive cousin the 225's but at that price definetly buy the Sennheiser 580's. If your on a budget or need good cans to travel with then these are the best! I got mine at Headroom.com !Thanks!

Strength:

Price, midrange

Weakness:

Too bright, light bass impact

Unlike many others, I find those headphones to be quite comfortable -- even when wearing glasses. They have great midrange response, but I find the treble to be a bit too bright and the bass to be a bit anemic. Neither is downright bad; conversely, neither is great.

Sound quality: 3.0 (would be 4.0 if they didn't sound so bright)
value: 4.0

Strength:

accurate, lifelike, comfortable, cool-retro look

Weakness:

not nuff bass, funny looks I get in public, privacy issue (open-air design) - can be heard by others

These are simply the best headphones you can get for every-day listening from CD players, to laptops, to home system. It's da bomb.

Strength:

Excellent price/value

Weakness:

Headband uncomfortable

I've been using these headphones ever since I read about them (and the amazing sounding Radio Shack portable CD player) in Stereophile over two years ago. What a great combo that's still hanging in there.

Strength:

Great detailed rich full sound. Unbeatable for the price.

Weakness:

Quirky, some might say cheap looks.

When you take your first glance at these phones you may ask yourself, is someone having a laugh. They are not exactly at the forefront of ergonomic headphone design. You could if you were being kind say they stand out from the crowd. If you were being cruel you may say they looked like a cheaply made throwback to the 1940s, the kind of phone you would expect a HAM radio enthusiast to wear. The open design and therefore, noise pollution they create may only confirm the hi-fi ignorant observer that his first impressions were correct.
Listen to them though and those sniggers of derision will turn into a broad grin. These headphone sound fantastic for the money, and even for twice the price they would not be out of their depth when facing the competition (higher grado models excluded). Match these headphones up to good hi-fi equipment and enjoy unparalled performance for the money.
As for comfort, from the reviews I've read on this site I would have thought they were discussing some form of torturing device in the form of a head vice. I found the grado's to be quite comfortable even from brandnew. They are light and not too tight at all, and that is coming from someone with a larger than average head. Perhaps they don't offer quite the comfort of some rivals but to say they are uncomfortable is simply untrue.
So go on get yourself some sr60s or even some 80s or 125s, you will not be disappointed. Futhermore the fun you will have from the looks of pleasant suprise your friends display when listening to them is an added bonus. The most important feature of any headphone is after all, their sound, these sound, sound(scouse for excellent).

Strength:

Excellent clarity, deep bass

Weakness:

Uncomfortable headpieces

These are an excellent pair of headphones, probably the best that I have heard for the price. They are exceptionally clear and have great bass response. The only downside is the earpieces, which tend to get uncomfortable after about half an hour of listening. All in all, an excellent value for the money.

Strength:

Crystal clear sonics

Weakness:

weak mechanical construction

The Grado SR-60's are mid-class priced phones, and perhaps in that price range, have the best available sonics.

Construction is mostly plastic, and stepping on the wire can hank the earpices from the headband, or even rip the wire connections.

Despite the less than robust construction, they have sound equivalent to a $10K speaker system, and can be an excellent reference, allowing extreme levels of detail, and an uncanny smoothness in the midrange.

Most people mention a certain uncomfortable aspect to these phones, well, take off the black foam cushions, and wash them in hot water with soap... Rinse and repeat. All the tight black colored stiffener on the foam cushions will come off, and the resulting washed pads will become as soft as a babies "tushie"... much more comfortable and soft... However, the now softened pads will deteriorate faster, lasting only two years or so.

If you should step on the wire and rip them, as I once did, Grado also has an out of warranty flat-fee repair of $20. which is quite a bargain. At least in my case, they simply replaced the phones for that charge, after the remains were sent in, this included a new pair of cushions.

The SR-60's have a large market share, as they should, for they have a superior product at a good price.

Strength:

Excellent sounding headphone for the price

Weakness:

None to really speak of

After purchasing two portable minidsic players (one for me, and one for the wife), I decided that I needed a good set of headphones for it. The in-the-ear fold-up Sony headphones that came with one player were ok, but the ones that came with our Sharp portable were totally unusable. Aside from sounding bad, they were terribly uncomfortable.

I first tried a pair of Sennheiser HD470 headphones. I was terribly disappointed with them. They made everything I plugged them into sound like bad AM radio. No $60 headphone should sound that bad. The stock Sonys were far better.

Then, I bought a pair of Grado SR-60s. I was pleasantly surprised by how good they sound. They have a very clean sound to them, with no noticible background hum. Base is quite tight, midrange is nicely pronounced, and highs are not at all shrill or annoying. I may not have an ear for detail that serious audiophiles have, but I know when something sounds good to me. These are the best headphones I've ever listened to.

These headphones are also very efficient. They run at the same volume level that my in-the-ear Sonys did, despite the fact that the drivers are far larger in the Grados.

I had concerns that they would be uncomfortable (based on other reviews here), but apparently Grado has addressed these issues. I don't find them at all uncomfortable, although they would be a touch more comfortable if I didn't wear glasses. That's my problem, not Grado's. :^)

Build quality is quite acceptable. There does appear to be something inside the headphone to provide protection against yanking the cord out of the headphone, which is an issues that I've heard discussed before.

All in all, a great headphone for the price, and another wonderful product from Grado. If you're an audiophile on a budget, or you're looking for a good set of headphones for your portable player, these are the ones to get.
