Strength:

High fidelity sound without a headphone amp!

Very nice. reproduces the ful range and fidelity of the sound without a headphone amp. Not as good as 40mm based units, but far more portable. They are a middle size. Smaller than "full" sized in home headphones, larger than factory walkman headphones. Have great sound quality, are comfortable. The most notable performance is in conrast of sound range. You can hear a 20-some hertz note at low volume at the same fidelity (quality) as at higher volume. They have a long cord 3M cord with gold plated terminals and a screw-on stero plug adaptor. Great performance at a nice price.

Strength:

Boosted Bass, good for Rap and Techno
They Fold
Cool, sliver finish

Weakness:

Earcups are very uncomfortable after a while
Cord is over 10 feet!
Not very durable looking

I bought for myself before Christmas when my Jensen's broke. So I drove to a local Good Guys and found these very attractive looking studio monitor headphones. So I decided to buy them.

When I placed them on....
The earcups were too too small. Although the headphones were 30mm, they had overboosted bass so its not good for classical music. Also, if you plan on buying these, make sure you make some kind of outer protective thing for the head bands, because man.....these things break apart easily.

Strength:

NO static sounds when listening loud music. Disant trebal with some pretty good bass on it. Headphones can go LOUD. As a rookie DJ, i'm pretty satified with the product

Weakness:

Wearing them can be a little uncomfortable

Overall, the sony MDR-V300DJ is pretty good for its price. plus the design looks cool :) the bass is great ad the trebal is alright. the down side is the cord is TOO long and it can be uncomfortable wearing it at times. plus it cannot take as much energy as the MDR-CD280. the headphones can go loud, which meet my expectations for a $60 headphone. if you are deciding to get this headphone, check out the MDR-CD280 first before you get it because they are both the same price, but different features. As much as i want my headohones to be more comfortable, i would still choose the MDR-V300 because of it's stylish look and the sound quality. plus a DJ needs the cups to move too.
4 out of 5 stars

Strength:

Smaller than the full sized headphones, so makes it easier to carry around than the big ones. Better sound compared to generic sets offered along with portable cd players.

Weakness:

Bass is over emphasized leading to a muddled overall sound quality. Gets really uncomfortable after wearing the set for a while.

My biggest complaint that this model unnaturally over-emphasize the bass frequences, thus muddles up the sound quality. When I use the set on my computer, I have to turn the high frequences on EQ setting all the way up, and depress the bass frequences, to compensate. On a portable cd player, I'm stuck with this unnatural over-emphasis.

The earcups are too small, and the set is tight. So gets really uncomfortable after a while.

Cheap plastic construction. Sony could have used some sturdier plastic.

Either go to the higher end, or to the lower end. Skip sets at this price level, at least the ones from Sony. Definitely not worth the money or the pain.

Strength:

Small size.

Weakness:

Many. I've never heard a pair of headphones that sounded so "muffled" in the midrange. You can get better sound from a pair of $9.99 Radio Shack earbuds.

I really tried giving these phones a chance. My wife bought them for Christmas for me months ago and I didn't want to make her feel bad. The pair I had from Sony before were the best I have ever heard. To be fair to the MDRV300's, this former pair was an around the ear design. These old phones were broken when my daughter stepped on them. After using the MDRV300s for a few weeks, I superglued the old Sony pair back together as best I could.

The MDRV300s sound very hollow and muffled to me in the midrange. Like I said, maybe this design always sounds this way and is not for me.

Strength:

light, silver finish, low price, bass, "semi-foldable", long cord, great for use with laptops on planes

Weakness:

too much plastic, poor mids

wanted some headphones to use with my apple powerbook g4 for mp3 and dvds on planes. sony's v300s were recommended for their low impedance and good "amplifying" nature. plus the "sealed" headphones help.

they're silver finish matches the powerbook's titanium finish too =) works well on plane. i have big ears so they don't entire seal, but definitely better than ear plugs and cheap headphones.

it's a bit plasticy/fragile as others have mentioned. for $35 (forget the name of the online store, but did a search on mysimon for the best price), it's a decent deal.

if i were to get more audiophile phones i'd go for the senn's but for a sealed headphone, the sony's work fine.

ps. all the ir models i've tried are terrible. decent sounding if you happen to be a the right angle and distance, but too much static the reset of the times.

Strength:

Great Bass Response, comfortable fit.

Weakness:

Cord is a little too long for my needs. I guess it's good if you're using them in a studio or a control room for audio/video.

These headphones are great. I purchased them at Electronics Emall.com. Here is the link if you're interested:(http://www.electronicsemall.com/sonmdstudmon3.html). They are very comfortable on my head, and I love the bass response I get. I use them with my Sharp MD player, and they sound great with the digitized music. My only complaint is that the cord is a little too long (3 meters). My pair recently broke because my dad tripped on the long cord and the miniplug bent and snapped off. But I'm still going to go and buy another pair from Electronics Emall. I'm just going to have to be a little careful with the cord next time...

Strength:

cool look, price not too expensive

Weakness:

the sound ! NOT COMFORTABLE AT ALL !

I bought the Sony v 300 after reading some of the reviewers opinions. I found the sony looked cool but I wasn't able to listen it at the store, so I bought it. Important : I've searches a good headphone to use on a portable cd player and occasionnaly for Hi-Fi use. But after 10 minutes of leastening, I did deeply regret my purchase. Sound was artificialy in the bass registry, sounded very strange. And this product was not comfortably, your ears begin boiling after a short time ! I did compare it to my Technics RP F1 and it's like night and day. I've returned it two day later.

Strength:

Great sound for the money, comfortable and stylish looking.

Weakness:

Poor Construction

I was shocked when I read the reviews posted that there was not more mention of the poor plastic construction of the product. I purchased a pair of these headphones in Fall of last year and after 4 months of use the side of the head band (about half way to the top of my head) began to give and has finally cracked.

A colleauge of mine who originally recommended them to me has since had his break in the exact same location. He is sending his back to Sony with a letter of complaint. If Sony were to redesign the construction of these headphones and maintain the sound quality I would buy them. However, I would suggest you avoid this particular model.

Strength:

Great sound, clear and balanced.

Weakness:

They begin hurt my ears after an hour and a half of wearing them.

I dunno why I bought these, but I'm glad I did! I never would have noticed how much I had been missing until I tried these on. I had a pair of MDR-CD60's kicking around, which are only $10 less, but they don't have anywhere near the detail these have. Great value if you want to hear your favorite songs all over again. I could hear things in songs I had never heard before. Excellent fidelity for $30 headphones, bass isn't quite as loud as some other headphones, but it is reproduced very accurately. The only fault in these I found were the fact that I could only stand to wear them for an hour and a half before my ears were hurting. I have fairly small ears, so this may be why. Anyone else have this experience?
