Strength:

sony name

Weakness:

sound quality, MISLEADING specs, fit/comfort

please note: this review is for ALL the sony street style 'phones.

though i have a pair of truly excellent koss porta-pros, i needed a pair of 'phones i could use while wearing a hat.
i keep seeing all these people all around with the sony's
(or variants of) so i thought i'd give 'em a try. i tried the entire sony street syle range -

and i'm still looking.

wow!! how truly horrible these are.

if there was ever an example of misleading specs this would be it. you really need to crank up the volume on whatever you are using them with to get any kind of spl.

in regards to sound quality - there is none. no bass, no mids. all you get is tinny, scratching, etchy, glassy(in a bad way), highs. some people elsewhere have commented on
great soundstaging. i did not have these on long enough to really tell (or make that i did not want to have these on long enough). it's as if i head my ear right up to a very
poor tweeter.

i've always thought my koss were great - now i know just how great they are.

usually if i don't like the way a piece of audio gear sounds during a demo, i give my "they're alright" or "it's ok" lie. but for once i was honest - " i don't really like 'em" i told the salesperson. i tried one model after the other and the sound remained consistantly dreadful.

don't think i'm hear to bash sony - i not. i've used some truly great sony product - including the awesome (at least for md) mds-jb930. i'm only bashing the street style range of headphones.

if it sounds like i'm exaggerating - i really, really not.
that is how awful these are.

(as a side note to all those who complain about the koss
porta-pros "boomy" bass - try to listen WITHOUT the bass eq or bass boost on. unlike most (all?) "portable" headphones
the koss are designed to be used without this useless feature (selling gimmick). this feature is put onto portables for two reasons - as a selling point and to compensate for the lack of bass on portable headphones. anyone care to argue with me on that point?)
