The built-in microphone was sensitive enough to make a clear recording of voices a few feet away as well as soft music playing in the background. However there is no option for an external microphone. The overall sound was very good.

The controls were far too sensitive to be useful. I actually returned this product due to the control issue. It kept rolling past the menu item desired even with the sensitivity set on the lowest setting. It would be useless to try to change any settings while exercising even on a stationary bicycle.

The hypersensitive control panel made this product useless to me. Despite the excellent digital recording through the built-in microphone which was one of the main features that I required, this product was overpriced and hard to operate. I returned it and found another brand with better designed controls.
