Strength:

Smooth sound, not harsh or 'digital'

Weakness:

none

you can only go by what sounds good to you. so i can only say that this player is and was the best that i have yet to audion. mind you, i have it with the numerik, but what a player. it sounds great on its own, does not beat the ikemi on its own, but i really feel strongly that it beats the ikemi with the numerik. now, not to brag, but i can afford the ikemi easily, especially with the trade in value i get and was offered, for the karik/numerik combo one the ikemi. but the sound just did not beat the karik combo. sure, it did some things better. but the karik, i felt, did most things as well and better. i also prefer the build quality of the karik to that of its newer simbling. to say something is new is not to say its better. and technology does not always make the breaking ground it boasts of. look at the vinyl and digital. for my ears, and considering the money is not even the question, the karik combo is definitly still ahead and handsomely.

what a player! it just keeps getting better and better. full sound stage, detail, tons of depth and 3-d imaging. and it does all of that and still manages to remain wonderfully musical! i prefer it over the ikemi that i demoed when in new york visiting family. it was'nt as forward or agresive as the ikemi, i found it to be more musical in that regard. i added a numerik and it was all that much better! if you can find one you can't go wrong, a real keeper! 5 stars all the way!

Whose this LINN guy? Afraid put name where your nerve is 'guy'? The genki is an amazing sounding player. The Karik by itself is an amazing sounding player, cutting edge, even LINN, the manufacturer, boasts of that. Almost everyone you talk to admits it is at times a toss up as to which is the better sounding player, but more often than not they pick the Karik. Like most people here are saying, "have a listen". Not to mention the transport itself is head and shoulders above the genki, a fact, again, LINN the manufacturer, admits and yes, boasts about. In fact the trasport is one of the best in the world, bar none...forget price. You cannot go wrong with this machine, add the numerik and you have one of the best pieces in the world, bar none, forget price. Anything less than a 5 star choice, the reviewer need their ears cleaned.

The Karik beats the Genki, not by alot, nip n' tuck, but it does. Its built better, alot better than the genki. The Karik MK III is also very much up to date and not long in the tooth. Just listen as has been said here, it won't take long, the Karik will come up on top.

It's funny, most of the glowing reviews of this CD player are by people trying to justify the mega coin they spent on it in the face of recent advances in technology. Even the GENKI surpases the sound of the KARIK now.....You can't go back in time, but you at least have a fairly good transport.

Strength:

Detail, warmth, character, build quaility.

Weakness:

None yet.

This player is so musical, detailed and warm without losing the benefits of digital sound, it gives me no cause for reget for moving from vinyl. You simply cannot go wrong with it. Some of the darker reviewers here need re-ass-ess their "audiophile" realm. Play it, listen and that's all she wrote...

Strength:

smooth,sweet and detailed sound

Weakness:

searching for flaws="a lot of work with little return"

Detail, musicality...What else do you want from the player, that is designed almost ten years ago? And still kick's a..!Yes, it doesn't have "harmonic richness" of the
newer 24 bit DAC's(Meridian 508-24)but as good as Sony CDP-XA7ES, or Naim CD3.5. Just like any other product, it should be carefuly matched, with the rest of the system. But nobody can really say, that Karik sounds bad!Or any other Linn product.I directly compared Karik with, and against Krell Cd player and Integrated amp Cav 300i.Krell is extremely "analytical"+ Krell CD player=Pain. However, with Karik, hooked-up, sound mellowed by "gratifiyng notch",it wasn't ideal, it was still "cold" but far more listenable than All-Krell combo. The Linn set up (Majik,Tukan,Karik)was much more musical, and enjoyable.Although, not so good with Hard rock, or Symphonies(Tukan two way monitor,VS Canton 8-22Khz)it couldn't compare with Krell, Canton system.Karik is one great CD player and with "Numerik" one of the Best!
