Strength:

Standard SONY quality playback on both CD decks. I would be hard pressed to distinguish between source material and the CD-R/RW copies made.

Weakness:

I agree with the previous write-up on SONY's manual writing abilities...poorly written. They advertise you can record from any analog source (CD, Tape, LP etc) but do not address how to accomplish this.

Overall a quality product with which I've been very pleased (SONY needs to improve on their technical writing skills though). I use deck A as my primary CD player and deck B to archive my tape/LP collection (I still use my 15 year old Technics LP, Cassette deck and receiver as the other components). Though I just started using the 4x duplication feature, this capability is handy in making practice tracks for members of the band I play with. Time will tell if this SONY product keeps performing.

Strength:

SONY Name

Weakness:

Manual is pretty lousey.

I thought the directions for burning cd to cd were fine and managed to get two standard cds on one cdr. But when I tried analog, forget it. In three days, I haven't solved the procedure yet and Sony never mentions a thing about analog tansfer. I even brought the first unit back to the dealer figuring the inputs were bad. There are only two inputs on the machine, but when I go through the procedures (like tape copying) the unit stops recording after 20 seconds and there is no transfer. What's the secret of analog recording? Basically I am using the speaker outputs to the deck b cdr inputs. Still believe in the product.

Strength:

Sony quality

Weakness:

Poooooooooor technical writing and even worse instructions.

Thank God for Paul from Canada. I spent 3 hours last night trying to figure out how to burn a mixed CD. The manual is of no help whatsoever and is so non-intuitive that I wound up throwing it across the room. No where in the instructions does it mention that you have to program the tracks, hit synchro and then play. What the hell is Sony thinking?

I like the quality of the product but c'mon Sony, hire some tech writers and customer service gurus to get your house in order. Sheesh

Strength:

High quality product with optical output for deck A and optical input and output for deck B (the recorder)
Good quality sound

Weakness:

Better user manual. Missing digital recording level.

Contrary to the other poster's this recorder can do many things. If you wish to make a cd from many other cd's, put the first cd in deck A and program the tracks to copy. Just press the program button followed by the track no. You can program just one track or as many as you wish. To start recording press the CD syncro button and sitback for a perfect copy. For your second CD also program the track etc.
When your finish, just finalyse the cd.
Using the optical output, I can't see any difference with my expensive Yamaha cd player.
Using the digital input you can make digital copy of an externally connected CD player. Use the manual record. The sony will automatically add new tracks when the music pauses between track. To add a new track manually just press the record button while recording. Love the sony 2 year warranty and did purchase an additional 3 year warranty for $50.
So far it's a great product. I like recording from the tuner and LP's using a rewritable cd. You can create cheaper CD-R on the computer using the rewritable as the source.
