Strength:

Good digital recordings, easy 2 use

Weakness:

Everything rest

Sorry for my bad english, I'm from greece.
This is the worst product i've ever bought. I was happy that i could record my vinyl discs in CD and i bought it. DDDDAMN IT. I want to break it in 1000 pieces. In the firts 3 months it started to display in every disc i inserted (TDK , SONY,etc) OPC ERROR except philips discs. Now after 1 year it doesn't recognise any disc. The worst thing i ever bought. I through it yesterday in the garbage. NEVER BUY IT.PIECE OF JUNK

Strength:

It records CDs!! and doesn't cost too much.

Weakness:

sometimes it doesn't feel like recording CDs!! Can freeze when recording, leaving the disc useless. Also its fussy about which CDRs it recognizes

I actually paid £250 for this CD recorder about 18 months ago. I have never noticed any problems with the quality of recordings. Playback of CDs isn't great but i didn't buy it for that. I bought it to record CDs. I do this from minidisc via optical cable and from CD via digital coaxial. The major problem is that sometimes it just freezes when recording. After about a month of use this began to happen more and more, until i took it to the shop for repair. When returned the problem continued from time to time. However, this problem has not occurred for a few months now. I do not have a definite answer as to why, but it may be because i noticed that it gets very hot when recording, so i immediately turn it off after use to cool down quickly. I never record one CD straight after another anymore.
I have never used any other CDR so can't compare it. However i would not recommend the CDR770. When it works it's fine but it has just gone wrong too many times. When i start recording a CD i am never confidant that it will do the job. There must be better than this, and i am on the lookout.

Strength:

Price; recording quality; unit controls

Weakness:

Disc loading; potential for feedback

I got this unit a couple of months ago and have used it to burn my entire LP collection onto CD-R. It was an open-box item at Circuit City (which, by the way, is a great way to buy because you save money and get the same warranty and guarantee). I have found this unit to be easy to use and very good overall. To me, the recordings sounded 100% like the source material. Also, you don't have to use the remote to do a whole lot, as the unit controls cover almost everything. One neat feature is the jog dial/push button which, with the well-designed display, allows you to quickly find the song you want. My negatives would be as follows: 1) Like many similar Philips products, disc loading is pretty slow. Sometimes, after all the whirring around, the unit doesn't recognize the disc and it has to be reloaded. In such cases, the second try usually works. 2) There is potential for severe feedback noise if you have your receiver inputs set for this unit and then you put it into record mode. For this reason, I connected the unit into my receiver's "tape" outputs so that the receiver would block the outgoing signal when in "tape" mode.

Strength:

Optical in, Digital in & out, flawless recording, excellent remote design.

Weakness:

This is the single tray model. There is not TOS-link digital output. Strange stand-by mode.

Got this baby for Christmas. I didn't have a CD player with a digital outputs, so I had to use the manual ones which suck (akin to recording a tape, only much more frustrating when using a CDR and not a CDRW). Finally got a CD player with a digital out and it is now awesome. Although in the auto record mode it appends one extra 3 second track onto the CD...not way to prevent this except for single track recording and that would blow. Love the feel of the remote and the buttons on the front panel, feels very well put together. It does take a while to determine what type of disc it is using at first, but is this normal? I don't know. Doesn't bother me, although I am worried with all of the noise it makes that it could fail at any second, although there is no basic to that (do have an extended warranty though) Excellent machine.
