Looks, Recording quality, price

Have only owned this recorder for a week, but already very impressed with it. I have recorded one CD from my source CD, and one from Sky Digital, Music Choice. I have to say that the quality of the recording from Music Choice was unbeleivable. Pure, crisp sound on every track, bass was punchy and pure as were all the frequencies. I really can`t fault this player, and believe me I have tried. This has got to be, without doudt, the bargain of the century. Not only is it superb as a recorder, but also as a player. The best thing I have bought in a long, long while

Strength:

Two button CD copies, excellent copies, pretty damn good as a CD player

Weakness:

no open/close on remote

Bought originally as replacement for cassette recorder

Recordings sound great, analog or digital

CD/CDR/CDRW play back average/good for price, but its extremely good used via the digital out into TAGMcLaren AV32 processor. Better than a Meridian 500 CD transport! No seriously it is. Far more tuneful and musically engaging, the Meridian is dry, restrained and utterly boring in comparison, a lifeless sound robbing music of verve and punch. I was shocked.

A fanstastic performer for the money and it records too! looks a little above average build quality, no problems so far, all CDRs play. Using TDK XG and XG PRO blanks the copies are very high sound quality, BASF blanks sound different from TDK, go figure! BASF has softer bass and rougher treble. Tried Maxell PRO, nicer than BASF, but TDK XG PRO is pretty much perfect.

Very impressive for the money

Strength:

Recording quality both digital and analogue

Weakness:

noise with reading CD's, CD'r and CD-rw, remote control

This is a very good product. Copies sounded 95% as good as the original. Also playback quality is very acceptable altough not as detailed and fine sounding as my Arcam Alpha 8SE. Comparing with the Philips CDR880 the recordings made on the DR6000 are really much better. soundstaging, depth and detailing are very, very , very close to the original. I use TDK, Maxell and traxdata CDr's. The Philips copies always sounded a little mechanical. Analoque recordings are as good as the source, but my Sony DTC-ZE700 DAT-recorder sounds a little bit better on this aspect.

The thing that I didn't like is the remote control. The recording, finalize and open/close buttons are missing on it. When reading CD's, CDr's and CD-rw, there are strange mechanical noises.

Very much recommended.

Weakness:

None at the price

I invested in this player after lots of research. I was originally intending to upgrade my CD player (Arcam Alpha 1) with a better player, but in buying the DR-6000, I now have a better sounding CD-player that is also a superb digital recorder. Making CD copies from my Arcam Alpha 1 (which remains in use as a slave for the Marantz) is a breeze, as fortunately the Arcam has a digital out, and recording levels are set at perfect levels by the DR-6000. I have yet to make CD-R from analogue sources, but I expect excellent results as long as care is taken with recording levels. Copied CDs are indistinguishable from the original. As a player, the DR-6000 initially sounded thinner and less warm than the Alpha 1, but after around 100 hours of CD playback, the sound is now sweeter and more detailed than the Arcam, excellent soundstaging, very open, deeper and more extended bass and no listening fatigue whatsoever. A superb product, which can probably compete with most CD players in the 300--400 UK pound just for sound quality, regardless of the fact that it can also make CD copies and record your old tapes and vinyl on to CD-R. 10 stars for this.
