Strength:
The unit does have a good sound, when it's working right. The record process is easy and the results have been basically excellent.
Weakness:
Inability to record single tracks at faster speed, and problem aligning track cue and song start when dubbing at 4x. Plus some other technical glitches. This unit has a lot going for it but it also has some drawbacks. It is in essence the original CDR-2 which has supposedly had the bugs taken out of it. I have written a very comprehensive review of it which can be read at this link. Similar Products Used: None, but I was familiar with the faults of most of them. |

Strength:
great sound, fast speed for whole discs.
Weakness:
Will not work with CD changers!!! Everything about this recorder is great except for one stupid feature that makes it nearly impossible to record from a 5cd changer. I am using a Sony 5CD changer, which takes about 12 seconds to switch between tracks on different cds, as in when you play it in shuffle mode or program in songs from different cds. The HK recorder, however, times out (stops recording) after 5 seconds when in digital mode, and 10 seconds when in analog mode. Therefore, while the Sony CD changer is switching between discs, the damn HK Recorder stops recording. There is no way to pause the recorder, because the pause button actually STOPS the recording. I really don't understand why the HK times out like that -- I guess it is to save us from ruining a 65 cent recordable disc, which might fill up with blank space if the HK didn't step in and stop itself??? The only way around this problem is to switch the track numbering system to manual when/if you know the CD changer is about to switch between cds, but that is a royal pain in the arse and basically defeats the purpose. This makes no sense, because the HK play side is programmable, so the only reason you would use an outside digital source is to be able to play more than one CD...??? Has anyone figured out a way around this problem?? It would be nice to be able to program cds and then hit record on the way out the door, but with this machine, you have to hover over it and manually set the tracks. I am very disappointed (as you can probably tell), because if it weren't for this feature, the HK with a cd changer would be an invaluable tool for creating great mixed cds very easily.
