I have owned the Denon CDR-1000 for 9.5 years. My biggest complaint to date is that the recorder does not like all Music CD-R recordable discs that have been and are sold in the market place. This is more likely due to quality control or lack of by different CD-R blank disc manufacturers. Here's a list of good Recordable Music CD-R's I have and do use: TDK is perhaps the best of the bunch. Their CD-R's and CR-RW's are of a certified quality. I know of no other brand that goes the extra mile to assure high quality as does TDK. I have been using Fugifilm CD-R All Purpose Recordable discs with good results. More recently, I have been using Sony CD-R Audio Recordable discs with satisfactory results. I would STRONGLY NOT recommend using Memorex Music Recordable discs in this recorder. My prior use of Memorex High Bias cassette tape history was not very satisfactory as well. Their tape was good but their tape housings were bad. I was not too thrilled with Maxell recordable discs as well. Better to avoid most if not all of the non-brand name CD-R's as they tend to be about as bad as Memorex. Time wise, watch and listen to the machine while it goes through it's steps to accept the recordable disc you install. If that process is delayed, one of 2 things will occure. (1) The unit will reject the disc and you can forget about using that disc in the machine. (2) A delayed accepting of the disc will likely mean that the recorded/finalized disc will not sound good when you play the disc in other CD player units. The sound quality of discs sound better when played through this unit. Recorded sound on discs gets compressed when played on most 5-6 disc CD players.
