I exchanged my carousel changer by Yamaha that was a lesser model. I was going to have that model repaired. The person that gave the CDC-575 only used to hold up her TV so my lesser unit could do the same.the one I have know also needs repair.I was able to play it at first. It sounded more like analog rather then digital.Since it has an optical digital output, when I get the unit repaired,I'm going to purchase a DAC in order to upgrade the sound even more.As far as I know,Yamaha Carousel Changers are the only ones that have the Play/Exchange feature which when your playing a disc, you can change the order of the other four discs,and/or add and subtract discs without interfering with the track your playing.I think that is a wonderful feature.Overall I can't think of an overall value that is better than this unit.

Strength:

Very clean sound for the price (0.003% THD, 106db SNR, 96 Dynamic Range) plays CDR/CDRW, CD Text, good build quality, 2 year warranty, more specs avaible in manual: http://www.yamaha.com/yec/customer/manuals/04CDC-68.PDF

Weakness:

The tray always returns to disc 1 when power is turned on, even if you were playing an other disc when its turned off. No power switch on remote.

This review refers to the CDC-585, the direct replacement to the 575 for 2002. Overall, I'm very happy with this CD player after having it a few days now. The sound is indeed quite "natural" as thier product line is named after. I don't think you could as for anything much more for the price, the build quality seems good, and the operation of the tray seems sturdy and smooth. I connected it to my old Pioneer minisystem just to compare the CD output quality, and could actually notice a very audible improvement over the built-in player of the mini-system - this says a lot considering the poor speakers & amp of the minisystem. With the CDC-585, bass and high-end was much clearer, and the overall sound became much clearer! Soon I will get a Yamaha RX-396 and PSB Image 2B speakers to really let this unit shine!

Strength:

Quiet and Smooth Response (PlayXchange System). Clear sound. Simple Front Panel Easy Access Design.
Design. Great Value.

Weakness:

Currently none at its low and affordable price!

At this affordable price (less than $240 Canadian), this CD player gives you a lot of value for your money. The patented Yamaha PlayXchange system offers a quick, quiet, and uninterrupted operation; this means that while one disc is playing, the other four discs can be exchanged at the same time. Disc exchange times are very fast indeed. The sound is certainly sharp and never dull. With the harmonic distortion being rated at .004%, it can easily compare with higher-end models. Higher-end players would certainly offer you a warmer, more life-like sound and truer imaging but who is going to complain at this price? Other options to look out for are Marantz's and Onkyo's lower-priced models. For a company that is more commercial in its mass-production consumer-friendly concept (along the likes of Kenwood,Pioneer etc), Yamaha has made great strides in giving more value than what one pays for. According to sales personnel at Bay Bloor Radio in Toronto (where I obtained this unit from), Yamaha products including its CD players are very reliable; in fact Denon products are more often returned for repairs. In addition, the digital audio out terminal and the CD-Text function in the 575 model are extras that will certainly keep you very happy. The remote control is not too-cluttered and is quite manageable. This system works well with the Yamaha RX-396 receiver. For starters (those who are on a limited budget for a basic stereo system) you can't go wrong with this CD player.

Strength:

Great sound; excellent changer mechanism.

Weakness:

Hard-to-use remote (some buttons very small).

I agree with the other reviews posted so far on this CD player, and right now it is on sale at Sound Advice for $90!! You Florida readers have until February 29, 2000, to pick up one of these for a real low price. I got mine a week ago. Since my Adcom GCD-600 changer died a couple of years ago I've been looking for a decent changer to use in my system (Parasound P/LD-1100 preamp, Adcom GFA-555 and B&W CDM1SE with a Velodyne HGS-10 subwoofer). My regular CD players are both Sonys -- a CDP-X779ES and a newer CDP-XA3ES. I tried an RCA RP-8065, but it just didn't make it in my system, so when I saw the Yamaha on sale I checked out Audio Review and bought it. This changer stands up well to the Sonys. It is clear, clean, fast, sweet, dynamic with a great top, excellent mids and good bass (Byrn Terfel sounds fabulous on it singing Schumann Lieder -- a new release). It also has no problem with complex music. It held together just fine on Hyperion's Busoni Piano Concerto CD which I think has everything ever used in an orchestra with a chorus thrown in at the end. The changer mechanism works fine (better than my old Adcom and more flexible than the RCA), and although the build quality is nothing to write home about, it seems solid enough to work (only time will tell). Anyway, for $180 this is a very good deal, but for $90 it's almost a steal. Five stars all around.

Strength:

CD Text, optical output, beautiful sound, great price, and it matches all of my components.

Weakness:

Nothing so far.

This product was great for the price, ever since I have gotten into Yamaha I have been more than satisfied. Every thing that I have bought by Yamaha has given me optimal performance. This CD player wasn't any different. The track selection is three times as fast as my last player(Phillips, I know, I should be ashamed of myself). Although most CD's don't have CD text, when they do, it seems to work for me very well. The only thing i don't like about thing I don't like about the text is that it doesn't scroll back to the beiginning of the text. Optical output, they couldn't have done any better.

My components now are(no speakers included):
Yamaha RX-V 496 Dolby Digital DTS
Yamaha KXV-321 Dual Cassette Deck
Yamaha CDC - 575 Five disc changer
Sony DVP-560 DVD player
Sony VCR
Old but classic Dolby system Fisher 4-Head Stereo VCR
(coming soon)32" Sony Trinitron TV.

Speakers are coming in my next review.

Picked up this great budget changer at local mid-fi chain, Sound Advice for $90.00! It's in the bedroom & sounds great. Audiophile quality sound and construction? Well... no, but a great second player nonetheless!

Strength:

It's a good quality 5 C.D. changer from a good brand, under $200

Weakness:

There are cheaper 5 C.D. changers for about $100

I purchased the CDC-575 about four months ago. I purchased it because it was a yamaha, and that's a very good brand of C.D. player. My parents have owned a Yamaha CDC-715 C.D. changer for eight years, and have had no problems at all. The CDC-575 is so simple, my grandma could work it. Simply press the C.D. number, press the song up, song down buttons to select the track, and press play. This makes it very simple for a senior citizen, or a child. The C.D. player delivers a good cleans sound, and barely skips. It doesn;t skip at all. There are cheaper C.D> players, however why take the risk of them not being as good quality as Yamaha.

Strength:

Simple to use, rock solid construction, fiber optic out, well made remote. Cheap to buy and improved sound over my P.O.S. DVD player.

Weakness:

None I've seen so far. Would be nice to have on screen display but not necessary. Digital readouts are a little small.

When my Pioneer P.O.S. DVD player decided to take an extended holiday in the repair shop (it's going on two months now and still getting the run around)I decided to pick up a used CD player so I could get some use out of my main system. I read the reviews here on AudioReview.Com and decided to take a chance on a used CDC-575 player. I've been nothing but impressed with this machine. Other's may have more bells and whistles but this thing is rock solid and delivers a much warmer sound than my DVD player which I feld sounded "bright" and harsh. I'll do a side by side if I ever get the damn thing back. I was going to ship this thing upstairs to the secondary system when I got the DVD back. Now I don't know. It sounds so good I just may keep it where it is and buy another. They're so cheap now.

Great product.

Strength:

- Price
- Quiet operation

Weakness:

- None at this price

I got it on sale about a year ago and it's been a joy to use . I've tried friend's Sony CD player (lower end) and when the volume was lowered I began to notice a continuous high pitch hissing noise which is the sound made by the disc spin. How annoying! My Yamaha doesn't do that at all. I only hear the music. He paid little more for his player than my Yamaha. I feel sorry for him. Of course, you will hear the motor when changing the disc or opening the disc tray but you are not playing the music so it doesn't matter. In fact, other models in the store that cost hundreds more were even louder when they change or open. Hard to ask for more from a CD player at this price.
