Strength:

Great clarity, with very accurate, realistic and detailed sound, very good imaging with depth and height, fast disc read and track select, sturdy build, clear display, good well featured remote control, looks quite good imo... When comparing the SL-PS770D to other cdp's in my collection, it seems to reveal fine detail more than most, as in when listening to very familiar albums, there are fine details that haven't been heard before being revealed... The over all sound is well balanced, extended bass is decent, and not over blown, top end is clean and everything in a recording sounds realistic, with instruments well separated, vocals also sound accurate and realistic, the imaging is also very good, and depending on the recording, sometimes even seem to come from the rear or side of the listening position, there is also height to the image, with instruments well placed in the over all picture, quite a feat in a player of this price range and age, speaking of age, I have cdp's a lot older than this machine, that also sound very good, I don't believe that more recent machines necessarily sound better than older ones, although the very first cdp's are not the best is some respects, I mainly try machines from 1985 onward, as I believe that manufacturers had learned enough to establish a good sound quality by that time... Oh and the SLPS770D is also a very reliable machine... Highly recommended if you can find one in decent condition...

Weakness:

The SL-PS770D has a very revealing nature, badly recorded or mastered cd's will be more noticeable, especially when it is partnered with similarly revealing amplification and speakers... Can sometimes be picky when playing cd-r or cd-rw discs...

Strength:

great bass, performs very well especially with classical music

Weakness:

a little bit too big picture of sound

This is a great sounding cd-player at a dirt cheap money.
You can get it for as low as $200 or lower.
