Strength:

Quite good soundstage on some of CD, especially with electronic music. A lot of details. Fast bass if not to low. Quiet mechanic parts. Good facilities. Great price.

Weakness:

Rather bright. Vocals hiden on the second line. Not very natural sound and vocals with very 'industrial' style. Lower bass muddy and weak.

Rather bright with strong upper bass. Sounds thin. Average value for many. I replaced my NAD due to the laser worn-out as temporary solution. It disappointed me but... plays.

Does not "resume" play when a disc has been stopped (like my toshiba DVD player)it restarts at the begining of the disc.

I have had this cd player now for exactly 1 month. Let me tell you, everything everyone else said is true. This player will surprise you. The only reason I bought this player was because I needed a cheap single disc player that could play CD/R and CD/RW disc. As another reviewer said "I really didn't expect to hear a difference" but the difference was immediate. The clearity improved, and imaging got better. Bass is also much cleaner. This player also has a variable level output that allows you to bypass a preamp and go straight to the amplifier. I only thought players in the $1,000 range had this feature. Anyway this is well worth the money. If you want one, you better hurry, because they are going fast.

Strength:

fantastic definition and sound at an affordable price ! best in this price category, slim size

Weakness:

has only optical output, would have been nice if it had coaxial output too...

If you're looking for a very good cd player at below $150.00, this cd player is a steal! It gives wide dynamics, clear, defined sound and is not too bassy. It was even better than my current denon cd player (M30 minisystem). I tried listening to a variety of musical genres: classical, jazz, downtempo, electronica, rock, indie, and pop and its performance was simply amazing. Its slim size also makes it ideal for cramped audio racks/cabinets making it a nice partner for your dvd player.

the bright red led when it is in standby.

i have had this cd player now for one day and i must say it is shaping up to be the best £95 i have ever spent in my life! The sound and definition is amazing and the bass is just right without drowning out all the other sounds and i am saying this after upgrading my aging Nakamichi CD player witch i thought coulnt be beat when it comes to sound!

Strength:

Excellent value for the $; fatigue-free sonics; best CD Player I heard in this price range.

Weakness:

Yeah, I don''t like the bright red LED glowing in standby mode. (I may do something about this, like put a resistor in series with the LED). Can''t find anything to complain about at this price!

A "sleeper." I purchased for another room, not my main system. Fine performance for the money; nice detail and remarkably smooth mids and highs, nicely made, good ergonomics and smooth operation. Was pleasantly surprised. I noticed that my unit was manufactured in Germany.

If you like single-disc CD players just for Audio listening, this player has to be the best value out there right now. I had the Cambridge Audio D500 before this one, which was $350!! and was not worth $50 in my opinion. The Technics SL-PG4 blows it away in every respect.I also tied the new Sony SCD-CE775 SACD Changer also, and YES,the SL-PG4 is better.I can honestly say that I heard the difference in sound quality immediately.Maybe it's the MASH 1-Bit technology DAC.For $120 you can't go wrong with this player.

Strength:

Good value for the money. Good sound quality. Consumer Reports rates Panasonic/Technics very high for reliability.

Weakness:

I don't like the bright red LED that glows all the time when the player is off.

I wanted a good quallity reliable single disc CD player with a remote at a reasonable price to replace the SL-PJ316 which does not have a remote. The other components of my system are an Akai AA-R32 integrated receiver amplifier (1985) and Acoustic Research S50 Stature Series speakers (2001). I honestly didn't expect to hear a difference, but I immediately noticed the improvement in the sound - clarity and detail. Here are the key specs on the SL-PG4 with the corresponding numbers for the SL-PJ316 in parentheses: Dynamic range 94 dB (92); Total harmonic distortion 0.005% at 1kHz, 0dB (0.007%). I paid $110 plus $18 shipping (well packed).
