Strength:

Optical and Co-Ax out, the only model at this pricepoint which offers this. Price, paid only $100.00.

Weakness:

On-Off is not powered by remote

I basically bought this unit so that I could do clean
digital -to- digital minidisk recordings on my Yamaha MDX-793. It is not the primary unit I use (currently a analog Technics 110+1 jukebox).
The unit performs well and sounds good. At this price, a great buy.

Digital out, Looks, functionality

I have always believed in the statement, YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR... BUT in this case I strongly feel that I have gotten more than what I expected out of a cheap entry level Cd-player. I have to give this unit 5 stars in both value and overall performance and I cannot fathom why other people have rated it less? I purchased this unit from Egghead.com for 49.00 and for that price it is the best CD-player your hard earned money can buy. Yes it has the digital outputs and you even get the option of choosing coax or optical! No it doesn’t just hold 1 CD, it holds 5! Hey the looks are a plus... And the remote serves its purpose, which is to get you the track or disc number that you want while sitting on your couch. As for the shuffle mode, go spend 150.00 more on a base model Cd-player manufactured by another company just so you can have the shuffle mode you prefer as for me this thing sounds crystal clear, has great stereo separation, and has been a more than welcome addition to my HT system. Good luck people!

Cost, build, features

Weakness:

No HDCD, but what do you expect?

Since my Toshiba won't play CD-R's I decided to purchase a CD player. I looked at the Denon 370(w/hdcd) and some H/K
stuff. Also considered the Rotel 545. I went with the Teac because it was $99.00 at Costco and had digital outs. I now run it to the Digital in of my H/K AVR 80II which I assume has a very good DAC and now I'm lovin' life. Last night I spent 3 hours rotating discs in and out starting from early 60's rock to the present.

Now I feel more comfortable about waiting for DVD-Audio or whatever format sticks.

Value - digital out and <$100 no brainer!
Since all I wanted was a transport, and this one is very quiet, I give it 5's all around.

Limited random play options. Skips on multiple discs.

This unit has skipped on a number of discs. Nice price but not worth it.
