Strength:

Large Capacity
Hit List Feature
Direct Group Access
Good Ergonomics (knob-based disc/track access)
Door slides inside of unit when opened
CD Text
Keyboard input

Weakness:

No Random Track Programming
CD's can only belong to one group
No disc exchange
No Track Memo
13 character disc memo too limiting

I purchased this unit about two months ago and have been quite satisfied with it overall. It has worked just fine from out of the box although I must agree that it seems a little light. I would expect a more solid build quality and metal construction in an ES product. I have had no problems with "eaten" discs.

The sound is fine, although I think maybe a hair less dynamic than my Toshiba 3109 DVD Player. I'm using the Toslink optical connector to my Sony 300ES receiver and have not tried the analog connection yet. I'm satisfied enough to keep putting off getting around to do a comparison.

I really like the hit list feature and it should be noted that it does support(13 character) track titles. I also really like the knob-based disc and track access. For the most part, the unit has well thought-out ergonomics, although the manual leaves much to be desired.

The player is missing a few features that I've outlined in the weaknesses section - most notably (for me) no random track programming. I would love to be able to select a number of tracks (say for a party) and have them played back randomly. It is possible to do it through the hit list, but it's an inelegant solution requiring constant reprogramming of the list. The best solution would be the ability to shuffle play the (3) 32-track programs. I really would also like to be able to put a disc into more than one group. The sheer convienience of being able to load almost my entire CD collection into a single player outweighs many of my nitpicks, however.

I paid just over $400 for the unit and feel that it's a solid buy for that price. The $600 list is very much on the high side for the light feel and missing features.

2 star value rating for list price, 4 star value rating for what I actually paid for it.

I just purchased this product on the internet. Excellent! I used to own the sony 200 disc changer, but I really needed the extra space. For those of you who were wondering, the 300 disc changer is the exact size of the 200, they just figured out a way to squeeze 100 more in.
This player has balls. I chose the ES model because of its reputable quality and 5 Year warranty. I have noticed that its about 8 lbs heavier than the non-ES 300 disc changer. This is due to the alluminum front panel and overall rugged construction of ES gear.

The system is sweet. It comes with optical digital output, (top notch D/A converter if your reciever lacks optical input) keyboard text entry for naming CDs, cd-TEXT capable, plus about a zillion cool features that let you fade music as well as control your sound environments.

When you open the door, it slides inside the machine. (I really found this helpful as the older models had the door that droped straight down and could easily be broken.) Also, there is a light that changes colors and gives off a really killer jukebox effect.

There is so much that I could go on and on but I am too tired to care. I am giving it a 5.

Strength:

Good price, good sound, "talks" to Sony receivers

Weakness:

Sub-par build quality

Overall, I'm pleased with my 'CX333ES. I wish the build quality were a little better, but for the price, I can't complain. Anyway, a few reviewers have said that they can't get this player to work with the '98-'99 model year Sony ES receivers (specifically, with the 'DA50ES's two-way remote). There is a simple fix to this problem...all you have to do is go into the 333ES's set-up menu and tell it that you want to use the Control A1 (not the Control A1-II) S-link connection. Voila...the player will then communicate the first 200 disc titles to your 'DA50ES's remote!
