This is the first multi-cd changer I have owned. I bought it this morning from Bryn Mawr Stereo and Video and overall am already rather impressed with what i got for my money - especially at the fact that with the keyboard input it took me only 4 or 5 hours to program the cd's! Compare that to about 20 hours or so and eye strain required when using the damn remotes :P
Pros: huge capacity, great display features not found on others such as Kenwood, KB entry is great, VERY quiet, very good sound quality, extremely easy to use controls, CD Text is very good - scrolling text even (why can;t they do this for all teh dics?), easy to use remote (compared to others such as Pioneer and Kenwood), the LED inside is pretty nifty (a different color for each 100 cd's and it falshes as the carousel spins), track/disc delete so it never plays that song or cd ya hate, disc eject so ya don't have to squeeze yer fingers in between two discs to take one out, hit list feature (you can add a disc to the hit list any tiem while listening to it)

Cons: only a 13 character input/display for disc naming, can't open door during playback (no real need to though if all yer cd's are in it), over 19 inches deep (as are all of them), 18 second delay between songs on differnet cd's

With regards to other reviews, I do not hear any of that mechanical noise or disc jarring and rattling that others seem to complain about. The carousel seems to ride very smoothly and even takes care to slowly speed up and slowly speed down while spinning (so how can it rattle the cd's?).

The eight custom named groups are great and shuffle play works great within them as well as with all the discs - unlike the major problem found with the Pioneer pf-f1007.

I wish I coudl give this a 4.5 star rating due to the small number of characters allowed and the door not beign able to be opened during play. But if those are the only two little glitches - both of which I could easily get over - I'd choose this one any day over the others...

This a follow up to my previous post. I now have 2 of these units slaved together, now we're in CD heaven with 600 CD capacity. It is the coolest thing to have a continuous random play system with no delay and a very nice fade between tracks. So nice to be able to banish tracks you never want to hear ever again. This is a 5!

I like the unit, especially the KeyBoard input. It is a little noisy swapping disks, but I can not hold it against Sony for the price and features. The labeling per disk is OK. Disk labeling with a few more characters on the display would help. The CD albums are a nice feature, however, it would be helpful to have more albums in order to display the front and back of the CD cover since the track information is generally on the back side. If there is a wide variety of music tastes in the purchaser's home, the eight music groups is somewhat limiting.
It may appear that I have a lot of complaints about the system, however, I am just a knit pick by nature. I am actually quite pleased with the CDP-CX300, and it is absolutely wonderful to have continuous music all day/week long. Because it is so easy to play any particular disc/track, our family has listened to music that we that we had forgotten. It feels like we have a new music collection - what a money saver!!!

This player has drastic pros and cons. It can be had for $250 and has such an enormous capacity, if you slave it to another one you can hold your 600 favorites (like anyone has that many they actually listen to).
Pros: Price. It's no more expensive than any other entry-level cd changer. Sound. It has kind of a bright characteristic to it, but I get that feeling from most changers under about $600. It delivers a very accurate soundstage when connected to an external DAC by the optical connection (again, a bit bright though). Capacity. It holds 300. How many do you really need? Also, you can delete all of those tracks you hate on your CD's so they never get played again.

Cons: Build. This thing is a feather weight. It has a cheap plastiky look to it, but it is pretty cheap, so I guess that fits. Changing time. I takes up to 30 seconds to change CD's located on opposite sides of the carousel. VERY annoying. Doesn't have an on-screen display that works with anything but Sony receivers. I really wish Sony would change this. I think I would be content from a convenience standpoint if I could have an on-screen display of all titles with my Denon revceiver. Cheap remote, but who really uses their players remote anyway.

Conclusion: I would definitely buy this thing again for $250. I think if Sony ever produces a 200 or 300 cd jukebox with the +1 feature (tray to just insert one CD and play) it would be a hit. You could store all of your lesser listened to CD's in the jukebox and play your favorites in a better quality single player.

I'll give it a 4 for sound, 2 for changing time, 4 for convenience of 300 capacity and 5 for the price. I guess that averages between 3 and 4, so I'll give it a 4 since I'm stuck with it for awhile regardless.

I've had this unit for about 3 months now. I am pleased by the way it works, the features, the optical input, the sound and the price. I am however dissappointed about the text input. I agree that Sony should reconsider upgrading the display to show more information. Otherwise, it is a very good buy specially for those who prefer a jukebox.
Overall, a great product. Hope to get another, perhaps in the ES line to upgrade to 600 discs. If not for the poor display, a 5 but since there's no 4.5 - a 4!

I've had this unit for a day now. I'm not very happy at the moment. I'll let you know my bias up front--I want dead easy access to find a CD. Currently not happy because:
1. It is not compatible with our computer keyboard (CD changer will only power 120 mA keybd, mine is 300 mA.)
2. It only allows 13 character naming for CDs.
3. It doesn't allow tracks to be named at all.
4. None of our 250 CDs seem to have CD-text in them, even the newest ones.
5. There are only 8 music categories. I came up with 9 categories.
6. We can't seem to random play entire disks in a category. Only random play individual songs in a category. (If you know how to do this, please email me.)
7. The music search capability from the remote seems limited.
8. The manual is awful (my wife's a tech writer, so I'm biased against bad manuals...)

I do like having all my CD's available for easy playing. But I'm thinking about getting 2 Kenwood 200 disc changers instead. My sister is very happy with the interface for that one... 25 character disc names, 15 character track names. 3X more music categories.

Strength:

Capacity, S-link, Mega-changer control

Weakness:

Non-intuitive controls, lack of "basic" features

This CD changer occupies a valuable place in my system. I look forward to adding a second 300-disc changer to be able to house my complete collection. This will make it possible to leave all CDs at home and utilize MD exclusively in the car and with the walkman.

The display seems adequate at first glance, but really shows the limitations when attempting to scroll through lengthy CD-text titles. Additionally, there appears to be no ability to change the display to show time remaining as opposed to the omni-present time elapsed.

Summary: Sony hit a solid base-hit with this unit, but either overlooked or skimped on details, perhaps to lower the price-point of the unit. I picked it up for $269 and believe it to be well worth that amount.

Strength:

Price and Features

Weakness:

Thin sounding on-board DAC, only supports toslink digital out

For the price ~$250, an amazing CD player. The on-board DAC is not of high quality, but this is not an issue for folks with digital in on the preamp, receiver, or external DA converter. Only supports toslink digital out. The capability for Slink automated control through the PC is nice, especially for folks with large CD collections.

Strength:

300 CD Capacity, CD Text, Plays CDRs, has inputs for connecting a second CD Player, Price,Price,Price!

Weakness:

It took me an hour to text 110 CDs!! But I don't really care about that.

This is simply a great cd player. One of the biggest reasons I bought a Mega Storage CD Player is because I have 4 12"s and the bass would make my 5 disc skip a lot. If you have speakers with a lot of bass or a subwoofer DO NOT buy a cd player where the cds lie flat. I had to put my 5 Disc Changer on Styrofoam just so it wouldn't skip. I recommend this to all.

Strength:

Nice controls

Weakness:

Cheap plastic material. Less flexibility.

I got this unit for about $333 from Best Buy with tax and "four" 4 year extended service. Wanted to get something in the ES line but I guess tough luck for me!

I did a lot of research and bottom line is that buy CD player for functionality and compatibility with your other Audio/Video gear.

Here is my equipment:

Sony STR-DB930
Sony CDP-CX300
DCM KX12-Series 2 speakers.

I will give this CD Player:
Construction material: 3
Construction style: 4.5
Sound Quality: 4
Inputs/Outputs: 3.8
Compatibility with other Sony stuff: 5
Price: 5

--------

Sound is quite good but could have been better. Label (Disk memo) feature is there but bare minimum. Buy CDP-CX350 if you don't have the fancy remote.
