I've owned this CDP for over 4 years. It was the first step in the upgrade of my entire 2 channel system and at $1000 Canadian, it was a fantastic "bang-for-my-buck". It replaced a $200 Sony 5-disc carousel, that was fine mechanically, but wasn't very musical. I listened to a few players in this price range and decided that this was the best compromise of sonics and features (yes, I admit that I too prefer to pre-load 5 discs and then let them play, instead of having to get up after each one is finished). The fact that it has a HDCD decoder is just icing on the cake. Too bad that format isn't more popular. I can tell you that the dozen or so HDCDs I own sound spectacular in this player. Standard CDs sound wonderful on this player. It's possible that moving up to a higher end player might give me a little more warmth, but I'm in no rush to throw a ton of money into my stereo system for marginal improvements.

After 4 years, I've only had one problem and that was due to my playing it during a violent thunderstorm in which we had a wicked power surge followed by an outage. After the power was restored, the player gave off a loud screaming hum. I called the dealer and he suggested I simply unplug it and let it reset. We spoke for about a half hour and at the end of our conversation he suggested I power it back on. It was back to normal and it's been fine ever since!

As far as not being able to play CDs, I have one CD that it will not track. That's one out of 1500! (That disc is from South America so it could be a quality issue, although it plays fine in the car.) I made a CD-R of it using EAC and that plays fine in the Rotel.

My only complaint about the machine is that unlike the Sony I had previously, this one doesn't cycle past Disc 5. I have to press the Next Disc button to get it go to Disc 1. It seems like a pretty simple thing to program, so I don't understand why the Rotel engineers didn't bother with it. It is after all, a circle. Even the 6 CD stacker in my car cycles from 6 to 1!

I'm not sure Rotel still makes this model nor if they replaced it with another multi-disc player. So I'm holding on to this for as long it works and as long as I'm still playing CDs. If you are looking for a high end multi-disc CD player, I highly recommend this one. You can probably snag ones fairly cheap if they ever come up for sale.

Parcelforce and idiot seller-proof build quality, terrific sound, great looks, good remote. The convenience of a multi-disc player. 12v trigger input - the player links to my Rotel RC-06 pre, and both units turn off from the RC-06 remote. Did I mention I was a bit lazy?

For £85.00, are you kidding?

I bought this RCC-1055 for £85.00 on ebay, not expecting much, to be honest, but I wanted the convenience of a carousel player. It arrived (without any of the accessories, remote, etc.) in the packaging from an inflatable swimming pool without any "Fragile" stickers, and I guess that's exactly what the Parcelforce guys thought they were handling! (Transit bolts, what transit bolts?).
I had my doubts as the package rattled somewhat ominously when it was handed over. My suspicions were confirmed upon opening it, finding the carousel tray jammed about an inch open, with a "Very Best Of The Byrds CD" rattling about inside. Needless to say, on power-up nothing much happened except for an "ERR" message and some nasty grinding noises. So, off with the lid, and after removing the offending Byrds CD and a couple of random bits of cellophane that had somehow found their way in there, and re-engaging the carousel drive, the thing functioned perfectly.
The player sounds great, seriously energetic, with a detailed soundstage and balanced frequency response. I don't think it had been used much, as the overall sound seems to still be improving and opening up as it continues to burn in.
Oh, and full marks to Rotel (B&W) UK. One phone call and £14.00 later, the correct remote (RR-D92) arrived by first-class post the following morning.

Hi you all. I got first the Onkyo DX-C390. What a piece of junk in terms of musical quality (horrible), that's the only big turnoff, but what a turnoff! Also the build could be a little better and not such a big apparatus (it's bulky). Pros: 6 discs capability, tray light helps to put the discs in the carrousel, displays the name of mp3 files and little noise changing discs.

Previously I had a single cd player (Harman Kardon HD 750) which worked perfectly until I decided to buy a carrousel because I'm sick and tired to get up out of the comfortness of my couch to change discs interrupting my state of grace. As old as the HK was, the Onkyo was far away to match its sound greatness considering that there are better players with HDCD than the HD 750.

The Marantz CC4001 is better than the Onkyo, but don't hold your breath. Sounds better and has a more solid construction, but stills sounds like "below Hi-FI" if you know what I mean. I could not understand why carrousels or changers are tend to be a "family" equipment putting aside or in a second place sound quality.

Thank God there is Rotel. The RCC-1055 is the way to go if you want great soundstage, clear dinamics and all that means HI-FI sound. Pros: sounds great and its build is just superb. Cons: only 5 discs capacity, not standby mode (not a big deal considering that you must put initially the discs in the tray, just push the power button at that moment and that's it), a little more noisy than the Onkyo and Marantz and it does not show the info from mp3 files among a couple of other not relevant things (in my opinion).

I'm just delighted with this player (the price above is in euros), it just make my Mordaunt-Shorts sound right. Bye.

Seems to be multiple issues w/ thier changers recently & yet NO recalls??

I bought this CD changer based upon the beutiful sound upon audition, Rotel's excellent reputation for quality& customer service(which you will see later turns out to not be the case) and the fact that it was(or should say SEEMED) solidly built.The Sound this unit has was amazing , WHEN IT WORKED!.I am disabled and needed a high end CD changer as I wanted to upgrade an aging Technics unit.I did much searching and ordered the Rotel unit. It took 4 months to get it in in black finish due to multiple back orders and waiting for them to come in from China but my old Technics was working fine so I felt it was worth the wait.I got the unit home and hooked it up to my system.What a difference!.The sound that it put out through my Paradigm's was amazing, detaled and rich.Through my HD-650's it was even better, you can hear Joey Defrancesco's fingers hit the keys and him weasing as he is blasting through passages.. Every CD was a new experience.THEN, the unit wouldn't read the discs.It would go from one to another, making horrific sound trying to read the CD's( FYI, ALL my CD were new and my old one's still look like new, so it wasn't the software).It wouldn't respond to me pressing buttons to switch to the next disc etc.I would shut it down and have to turn it back on..then it would work for a day or so w/o that issue.It kept malfucntioning sporatically so I took it back to get a new one. They gave me a hard time being the unti wouldn't do the issue for them but finally I got a replacement, after they shipped me one in the wrong color, then sent one to the WRONG person!!!.Player #2 was even WORSE!.It played about 3 discs then it too made horrific noises almost sounding like grinding & hold for about 2-3 minutes the switch to another disc, go through the whole rotation, saying there were no discs(even the ones it had JUST played fine!).I turned it off for 10 minutes & tried again, same thing. I turned it off for about 2 hrs & turned it back on and it played fine..... for awhile.. then the same thing happened again. My installer contacted Rotel directly to see what was up as a entry high end CD player shouldn;t have 1 defective unit, let alone TWO!!!!The factory rep said they got a bath of bad lazers from Sony so give them the serial numbers to verify.Well, both of mine were supposedly in the "good" run so what was Rotel's solution???They told my installer for me to get a DIFFERENT BRAND UNIT!!I was flabbergasted.Because my unit's didn't fit in thier chart of when the supposed BAD units were made, they didn;t even want to offer me to have this recified and to get a properly functioning unit.So, I will NEVER own a piece of Rotel equipment in my life as this had to be THE WORST experience I have EVER HAD w/ anything.I felt bad for my installer as he went above and beyond the call of duty to rectify this but between Hippo's and ESPECIALLY ROTEL, I would recommend people to look elsewhere. I had planned to go to an entirely Rotel system as my fixed income will allow but now, I am doing what Rotel had said got a Marantz CC4001 changer and ENJOYING the music(and it sounds as good as the Rotel w/ even smoother bass!) w/o all the hassle and runaround(PLUS you will save yourself $300+ AND get a 3yr warranty as opposed to the 2yr from Rotel).It really pains me to write a review like this as I WANTED to write a review praising the sonics & was hoping to embrace in Rotel's quality but it turned out to be nighmare.My advice? LOOK ELSEWHERE if you need a high quality changer

I hate to say this(and I'm a VERY easy going guy who is of the"have nothing nice to say, say nothing at all" school) but I can tell you that Rotel's customer service was horrific and honestly the WORST customer service I had EVER experienced in MY LIFE, basically tell me that because the unit wasn't made in thier so called KNOWN batch of bad units that mine were fine.. and to tell me to buy another company's unit(mind you..I'm not one of these scream and holler jerks that would make someone say something like that, I wanted a solution and recification was all).Rotel HAD a good thing going which is WHY I had went out of my way and saved to get this unit as I needed a changer being I am disabled but now it has made my image of them ruined forever.LOOK ELSEWHERE is all I can say for a changer.

Bought this piece after having been totally impressed with my HT system recently upgraded with a ROTEL RSP 1098 pre/pro and their 1075 amplifier. The RCC 1055 however is utilized in my critical stereo listening system and expressed through aging yet still excellently performing Crown IC-150A preamp and D-150A power amp components driving original DCM Time Window speakers. The system is also tied through a Crown OC-150A output control center and used to provide non-critical listening via Speakercraft in-ceiling speakers in three other zones of the house, hence the decision to buy a changer. In this setup, the RCC-1055, despite being a changer, provides outstanding sound through the Time Windows. Imaging is excellent and the sound is characterized by smoothness and solidity while also providing exellent dynamic, regardless of the genre of the music. HDCD discs provide an even livelier sense of dynamics. I have noted no thinness or sense of stridency in any of my listening thus far. While obviously less full and refined throug hthe ceiling speakers, the sound is still very smooth and enjoyable. Functionally, the RCC-1055 has operated flawlessly through its intuitive controls.
