I had this unit on my initial short list of desired audio products when I first began shopping for my new system. I was unable to get this unit off my mind after purchasing the first components a month ago (amp, preamp, dvd player, speakers, cables etc....) I picked it up from a local dealer two days ago and brought it home. The dealer brought the price down to $540.00 which is still alittle higher than the unit can be had on the net but I like supporting local business. I did the rigmarole of entering 300 of my CD’s into my home computer, categorizing them by musical style and then alphabetizing them within the category. I then took the list and began entering names from the computer keyboard while my roommate cleaned and loaded discs. That was last night and we have hardly left the couch since. 300 CD’s that were collecting dust are now readily accessible and are sounding new all over again thanks to the sound of this unit. Up to this point we had been listening to CD’s on our Pioneer DV414 DVD player. Although both units sound great, through the digital output (coax) of both units the CD player is much more musical...especially on recordings that sounded horrible from my DVD player, like U2's new one(1980-90) or any of that other stuff from the 80's. The best way I can describe it is that the DVD player sounds like unwoven thread where you hear everything but at times sounds highly unconnected. The PDF19 sounds like a nicely woven fabric where it all comes together. Other great attributes of the unit are dual digital outputs and dual analog outputs. This means I can run another connection to my downstairs stereo (my dedicated theater room is a bonus room above a garage)and listen to it with my main system off. There are 10 different custom bookmarks for random play. We loaded our player by style like pop, new age, lounge, dance, classical etc.... and then assigned each a custom range. So for playback we can either random play all 300 discs or random play only within a certain style. If you buy this unit I dare you to try to listen through a whole track without skipping to the next...the sound is so good impatience will get the best of you! A tip if you buy the unit is to enter the artist first and then the CD title. This way the artist appears on the display (in lettering that can be seen across the room) and a button can be hit on
the remote to display the title. With 300 CD’s it seems to make more sense this way. I can't wait to go back and get another unit as soon as my budget will allow me. I can tell you I've spent over $8000 on great gear the past month and this unit by far will be the most fun and practical. When you consider what you've invested in 300 CD’s it's worth the $530 just for a shelf to put them on, let alone a great, well built (rosewood sides) CD player! With all the talk of new audio formats it makes more sense than ever to buy something like this...just because there is a new format are you going to through all your old stuff away? Go get one...you won't regret it!
Oh yeah...the only negative I have to report at this time is the size of the remote. It's so small I'm surprised it doesn't take watch batteries, but it does do the job.

This product has changed the way I listen to music. I can now here that one and only good song on an otherwise crappy CD without having to get up every 5 minutes. It looks great and works a charm. Sound quality is a little dissapointing though. I also have the elite CD RW and the sound is equally dissatisfying. I just hooked up an Audio Alchemy DAC DDE3.1 which gives me that magic I was looking for. When I get a jitter interface in between I will be in heaven both in terms of sound and in features. I can honestly say that I will never be without my entire collection at my fingertips again. I can't wait for a 300 disc DVD-RW!!Great Stuff, but one star off for that horrible japanese DAC. Too bad coz the DV09 sounds a treat but thats the legato link S. That all important 'S' makes all the difference.

A WORD OF CAUTION: If you are thinking of hooking two of these units together in a master/slave relationship please read my review and follow-up for the Pioneer PD-F1007 which shares the same electronic disk management system. There appears to be an update on the IC that controls the disk selection circuitry. If your unit is still in warrantee you might want to have the updated IC swapped for your old one just in case you want to have 600+ discs at your command.

I recently purchased this changer and am happy to report all "thumbs up". I hateto admit it,but it has deeper bass and is more open on the top than my Nad 514
player which I consider a decent machine. I found beside the good sound, the selection process is simple and very easy to use. The title input, as said before, should be entered with the artist first then disc name because the artist name will stay on the screen. It could also use more memory than 12 characters in the input section.

It's a very good changer, but for this money Pioneer can add this features:1. Storing at least 32 characters for disk title and artist name (12 characters not enought at all).
2. Add feature that can remember disk (my 6 years old Sony ES player can remember up to 180 disk, programs, indexes).
3. Add feature to scroll by 10 disks or more (like in JVC 334 200-disk changer).

I'm ready pay more for this features.

Have owned the PD-F19 for 3 weeks, and I must say the biggest attribute is discovering the music that has been sitting in my CD Rack over the past 15 years. 300 disk @ 15/disc,and this changer is cheap at twice the price. I have my unit on random until I sit down at nite for serious sessions. It retains the depth, sound stage of the original recording. Playing through a pair of XR19 McIntosh speakers will show any weakness on the recording. I have switched over to a set of New Infinity Comp.3 and they are more forgiving of recording defects. The unit looks great, it puts your collection at your finger tips, what good is a cd left in a jeweled box......I love it.

Just bought the PD-F19. This is my first large capacity machine. I am pretty pleased with the sound quality, but then my ears are questionable. But, I was a bit dissapointed in the title/artist character display. The keyboard interface is nice, but why not add a few more characters to make it worth it. It would be nice to see an on-screen display to allow you to more easity edit your disc catalog. Inserting a disc into an already existing catalog is not really a practical option. All-in-all a good unit. I have found nothing wrong mechanically. In fact it loads disks pretty fast. Add more software and you might have something here.

I recently purchased the PD-F19 and have been very pleased with the quality, features and looks of the unit. The keyboard input and Cd text features are outstanding, however, the display of only 12 characters and the small remote control could be improved. I've noticed an odd sound when the player is stopped in the middle of a song, or when a new cd is started. There is an echo effect coming from the player and speakers. Has anyone else heard this? Overall this player gets a 4 star rating.

I purchased the Elite PD-F19 the other day and ended up returning it thevery next day due to it's complete and utter disappointing sound quality.
I used it connected to a middle of the road onkyo receiver and my Bose
901 speakers.
I used the internal dacs, which was my only option. I kept my previous
cd player, a 6 disc onkyo, connected and compared the 2. The difference
in sound was literally like night and day. My roommate and I were astonished
that this player cost me over $500 and sounded so ridiculously poor. The
onkyo, which is now around 5 years old, is head and shoulders above it.
The PD-F19 had almost no low end punch, and the mids weren't much better.

I really looked forward to having my whole collection in the player, but could
not live with the dropoff in sound quality it would have caused.
My recommendation would be to wait until someone makes a decent sounding
mega-changer.

I have had my two for awhile now and am very happy with their performence. I am using the analog outputs into a marantz av550 preamp with adcom amp and klipsch speakers. The sound quality is very good and I have had none of the problems mentioned in a previous post regarding connecting two units. I haven't been bothered by the factory remote as I use my rc 2000 for all functions.
