Strength:

Keyboard input, CDRW compatible, single loader, large capacity, headphone jack w/ volume control

Weakness:

Rather longish access time (but what do you expect with 301 capacity?), CD naming doesn't follow disc, only the slot

I've had the 1039 for almost a year. At the time it was the largest capacity changer available, but Sony released their 400 disc changers a few months later, however the Sony models are quite a bit deeper, and wouldn't have fit on my shelf.

I have over 600 CD's, so I will be buying a second unit to daisy chain for 602 disc capacity. The unit has never jammed on me, or damaged a disc, or failed to read a disc that wasn't already extremely damaged. The remote could be better, but then again, most Pioneer CD remotes aren't that great.

I use it in a separates system with an Onkyo P-301 Preamp, and Carver A-500X Amp going to NHT SuperOne speakers.

If you want to spend more money there are better changers out there, including one from Pioneer Elite, but for only $1/CD this is a great deal. I will be buying another.

Strength:

If it worked properly, the random capability would be great.

Weakness:

Doesn't work properly - did I mention that already?

I originally bought the PD-F1007 a year ago. It worked fine for a few months, but then lost the ability to store any memory whatsoever. It played fine, but none of the other functions worked (best, program, cd titles etc.). I took it in to get it fixed and after 2 months pioneer finally decided that it would be more cost effective to replace it than to fix it. It took a total of three months to get my new player! Of course the PD-F1007 had been discontinued by then because they had a lot of problems with this model. They exchanged mine for the PD-F1039 which was fine with me, unfortunately after using the new one for only 2 days I noticed some problems. First of all it takes about 3 times as long to pick and play a new cd than my old player did (about 35 seconds)and sometimes (about one-fourth of the time) it says no disk when there is one there (and yes I am facing them the right direction). Then later it will play the same disc that it said it couldn't read before. I don't understand why pioneer cannot put together a mega cd player that will work. If I return this one I will probably have to wait another 3 months. I should have spent more and gotten the Denon 200 player. This is my first experience with Pioneer and it will be the last.

PD-F1007 - didn't work either, this is getting redundant.

Strength:

Random playback modes
relatively quick disc-change time
+1 feature

Weakness:

tiny remote

The key feature in my shopping that led me to this unit is the custom file feature. This lets you set up 10 different files with cd's you specify. You can then randomly play withing a specific group. I found this to be the only model with a feature like this.

Although the clerk told me the change time was long, i have found it to be pretty speedy considering the capacity

The remote for this unit is weak. It has small buttons, and lacks the feeling of power I expect from a unit with 300 discs at my disposal.

Overall, I have been very pleased with my purchase. Several of my friends have already purchased this unit after seeing mine in action.

Strength:

300 CD + Single CD slot, PS2 input

Weakness:

CD loading mechanism.

I bought it reading the reviews here. Sound quality is greate but, loading mechanism is hopeless. One CD is damaged, One CD is broken so far. It has jammed four times in 2 months. If you look at loading mechanism, you will never buy this model. Loading mechanism is cheap and crap. If you look at cheap thin plastic arm and other piecess, you will loose the confidence in this unit for its durability. I am going give single star because of jamming.

Strength:

Ease of Use, Surprisingly Compact for 301 Discs; Can Customize 10 groups which can be played back randomnly in each group; Keyboard Text Input; Daisy Chainable.

Weakness:

Small Remote; No Optical Out available if Daisy Chained; Text Input limited to 12 characters; No Eject button for discs

I just got this product from brandsmall.com for $230 shipped. It is terrific, I spent the weekend selecting and installing the 300 discs (it was tough to narrow the choice down to just 300!), inputting the title with the keyboard option and customizing my 10 listening groups. You can play random within each customized group, which was the key selling point for me. What I love is the fact that I am listening to great music that I haven't heard in 3,4, 5 or more years. I was hesitating to buy this product thinking it would be overkill, but now that I have it I ask, how could I have ever lived without it? It is teriffic. The carousel loading feature looks like it will hold up well as opposed to the "Changer" cartridge option which my old 10 disc Sony only lasted 2 years with. If you have a large CD collection (as I do) and get tired of changing your 5 disc player often, think about this product it is great. So far I love it! For $200+ it's a steal!
