This is a player that has stood the test of time. Really outstanding at its price point and can be had used often in the $400 range. Probably would not be purchased new with all of the new formats shaking out, but would be a good bridge if you needed a CD player now and can find a good price on a used one. |

I love audioreview! I bought my PD-65 about 8 months ago through an audioreview ad, based on the posted reviews, and couldn't be happier. I can ditto what everyone else says re build quality, appearance, sound, etc. My 5-star opinion really fell into place after I started using a pretty good DAC (Parasound HDCD-1500). I noticed only a very slight improvement in the sound, as opposed to the more dramatic effect with my mini-disc and DVD players. |

This player has an impressively life-like and non-fatiguing sound. I've heard nothing better for under $2K...a real bargain! It also has an elegant look and feel to it. It seems to be built to a standard beyond its price. |

Strength:
extremely warm sound, excellent build quality.
Weakness:
lack of front panel direct access, but who uses it anyway? i recently purchased this item second hand in as new condition. the only thing missing was the owners manual. if you have one, please contact me about purchasing a copy. i bought this to use as a transport with an adcom gda 700 outbourd dac. i was in shock when i could not tell the difference between the pioneer output and the adcom output! now it does not matter which output i use unless the disc has hdcd, then we go with the adcom. where else can you find a cd player today that has all copper chassis construction and dual power supplies without paying thousands of dollars? the stable platter mechanaism is bullet proof. you can bang on this unit and it will not miss a beat. i can not make that claim with my denons. in fact i replaced the denon dcd 3520 with the pioneer and it is now in storage. i am using this player with krell electronics and epos speakers. if you can find one, grab it. you will not be dissappointed! Similar Products Used: denon dcd 3520, denon dcd 2560, adcom gcd 575 |

I ordered one today, and I'll have it next week. I actually had a dealer demo on lone for the past week, but decided I wanted a fresh one. I deliberated quite a bit before choosing a CD player for my system. When it came down to it, I chose the Pioneer because it represents and incredible value for the money. I was surprised this was indeed such a serious player. This is truly a high-end piece of gear. Don't let the "mass market" stigma fool you. This is well built, designed with the careful listener in mind. Its build quality competes with the finest units I've seen, it plays even badly scrathed dics and never skips. The sound (from the onboard DAC) is sophisticated, laid-back, yet deatiled and interesting. I'll be using it as a transport with my Musical Fidelity X24k DAC, but the analog stage is exceptional in its own right. |

If you want to buy a CD player whith high sound quality and low price (about $700), you have to buy a PD-65 becouse there is nothing better for under $3000. It is the best. |

Strength:
IT WORKS!!!
Weakness:
NONE SO FAR!! I PURCHASED AN AVA OMEGA IV OUTBOARD DAC, SO I NEEDED TO UPGRADE MY TRUSTY OLE MAGNAVOX CD PLAYER. IT DID NOT HAVE A DIG. OUTPUT. WELL THINKING LIKE I DID IN THE OLD DAYS I FIGURED A $200-$300 UNIT WITH A DIG. OUT WOULD BE JUST FINE SINCE THEY ARE ALL THE SAME ANYWAY. WRONG,WRONG AND WRONG!!!! THIS NEW S$%T FOR UNDER $300 WON'T READ A DISC. THE H-K 720 IS STILL IN THE REPAIR SHOP, THE TEAC BACK TO BORA BORA OR WHEREVER THE HELL IT'S MADE. ENTER THE PIONEER PD-65. WHAT A CD PLAYER AND WHAT A PRICE. IT HAS BOTH OPTICAL AND COAX OUTPUTS PERFECT FOR MY NEEDS. I AM ONLY USING IT AS A TRANSPORT BUT I WOULD FIGURE THE ANALOG OUTS HAVE GOT TO SOUND VERY GOOD IF YOU WERE TO USE THEM. TIMES HAVE CHANGED, SELLING PLASTIC 20 DISC CD CHANGERS FOR $89.50 SEEMS TO BE WHAT THE PEOPLE WANT THESE DAYS. I AM SO GLAD I GOT ONE OF THESE BEFORE THEY TO ARE DISCONTINUED. IF YOU NEED A CD PLAYER LOOK INTO THIS UNIT YOU WILL NOT BE DISSAPOINTED! Similar Products Used: H-K, TEAC, ALL NEW WITH DIG. OUTPUTS. |
