Strength:

Powerful, well balanced, easy to live with sound. Good with all types of music. Totally reliable.

Weakness:

Nothing

AVI S2000MP preamp and S2000MM 150 watt monoblock poweramps. Sources used - Linn LP12/Ittock/OC9, Arcam CD transport 170.3/Pink Triangle DeCapo DAC, speakers Ruark Accolades. Concert 4 speaker cable, Trichord Research DAC cable, Sonic Link Violet interconnects, LFD cable between pre/power amps, Trichord Powerblock 1000 mains conditioner. Changed a Naim 72/140 combination for these amps whilst using Ruark Boardswords. The AVIs absolutely trounced the Naims. Nothing came close for the money at the time of purchase. Attended several Audio/Hi-Fi exhibitions in Bristol up until this year (2003) and still the AVIs are up there with the best. Took amps to an enthusist friend of mine's house and substitued them for his Audio Research Pre/Krell Power combination costing nearly £5,000 and it honestly sounded superior. He was disappointed to say the least.

Strength:

Wonderful, balanced sound. Good detail without harshness; excellent soundstaging. Voices sound very natural.

Weakness:

An unreadable display.

This is a terrific player; it makes music. All of my favourite recordings come to life with this player. Especially noteworthy for vocal reproduction are "Witness" and "Adia" from Sarah McLachlan's Surfacing CD, "Brother" from Alice in Chains Unplugged CD and anything from Hot Club of Cowtown's Tall Tales CD. Bass is also reproduced with authority ("Sky Pup" from the Melvin's Houdini CD). When I bought the Numeral, I had originally intended to purchase a Rega Planet, but the increase in sound quality and music-making ability was more than worth the extra cost. Easily recommended.

I managed to find a Pink Triangle Numeral CD player at Musical Imagesin Covent Garden, ex-demo, at a substantial discount. So I took it
home for a demo, cabled it up and fed it "September" by David
Sylvian.

Wow. Every inflection and intake of breath in Sylvian's vocal came
across. Loads of detail, bags of emotion. Very, very natural.
Tried again with "Money don't Matter" (Prince) - same result. Very
lush and expressive. Clear highs, tight, deep bass, natural mids.
There's a sense of 'reality'. This player really does put you closer
to the music - perhaps the best way to describe it is to say that it
brings out the magic in a performance. It digs out detail in my CDs
that I had no idea was there, and projects a wonderful sense of space
and atmosphere.

It's also a very solid, well-made player - very robust (and quite
heavy). The transport mechanism is very smooth and quiet in
operation and the whole thing radiates a sense of quality.

Criticisms? One or two actually. Firstly the control layout is
rather non-ergonomic and non-intuitive, and this isn't helped by the
fact that the function graphics for each button are very faintly
applied - you have to get very close to notice that they are there.
Thankfully the remote control (which boasts a very attractive and
stylish design) helps matters.

Also the feet are made of curiously cheap, rigid plastic, and I'd
much prefer to see larger, pliant feet of the kind fitted to current
Arcam amps & CD players, for example.

But, the feet can be be fixed inexpensively and I'll get used to the
controls, so - 5 speakers I think.

It's partnered with an Arcam Alpha 9 amp and Mission 733i
floorstanders, using Cambridge Audio 'Silver Spirit 40' 0.5m
interconnects and Gale XL315 speaker cable (biwired).

Strength:

Deep and fast bass, natural and dynamic midrange, the player sounds like a High-end recordplayer (analog sound)

Weakness:

The display could be much better !

I found the player from a guy in Copenhagen and as soon as I saw it, I had to buy it !! Pink has a great look, and after playing some of my favorit music, i was sold !

It sound very natural and have a real force called "magic" it's abillity to make a "magic" soundstage it feels like the most natural thing, just like beeing to a concert.

This player is here to stay for good !
