This Opera Audio Orfeo CD player sound very like a high end player. The price is only $3000 and the sound is more like a x10 priced super high end unit. The cosmetic design and build quality is also very near a luxury high end unit such as Mark Levinson or Classe. The electrical design is based on the cheaper Opera Audio CD 120 Linear with a phenomenal sound quality and many top rating reviews, but Orfeo is improved design, components and build quality. The Orfeo sound so right and naturally and all instruments in the orchestra have the naturally sound and character. The superb transient response without any over-shooting in sound is a reality you immediately will expire first time you listen, and after "burn-in" its still sound more open and clear.
You can choose 44.1 or 88.2MHz sampling but the difference in sound is not very big.
I use this unit in a large high-end system with Hovland HP-200 pre, Jeff Rowland 301 power and Sonus Faber speakers.
