Strength:

Good sound quality, good design

Weakness:

perfect high, good mid... but sometimes I need more bass...

powerblock inside always overheated ...
the display burned ...
Hey, NAD's designers!!! You should care about what kind of "surprises"! Because quality of sound is great, but it's not enough to make some people be happy!
About sound - I'm still enjoy it - anyway I have no money to buy another cd player :)

The treble is very bright but pleasing.A super clear and precise player. I am giving the player five stars for sound quality but not for build quality. My scan buttons don't work right. I thought at first they didn't work at all. In order for them to make a good electrical connection I have to push them to the point of moving the player across my component stand. I have to hold the player with one hand and push buttons with the other hand. If anyone is having the same problem, please e-mail me.

Maybe I got a lemon, but my NAD 512 has been a problem. When I first brought it home, it wouldn't play about 1/3 of my CD's. I brought it back to the store and they shipped it back to NAD. I'm sure whatever realignment they did was negated by the UPS trip back home. When it can't read a CD and I open the drawer, the CD is spinning on the plastic platter. So the CDs that it can't read, it subsequently scratches. The access time is also awful. If going to a track above 10, I literally have time to get a glass of water before it cues.
I hate to just throw a CD player away, but anyone would be better of with a new $100 CD player than my NAD 512.

The NAD 512 has to be one of the best bargains in the affordable audiophile CD players! Build is better than most CD players in this price range (despite some rumored problems with QC) and the overall smoothness of operation is a bonus. The only quirks I could find are the limited angle of visibility of the backlit LCD display (along with the weird purplish color) and slow track access.
While on a absolute basis, the sound is a bit laid-back in terms if dynamics and "pace" - these are sins of ommision. The coaxial digital output is a major plus as you take the upgrade route.

Weh taken at face value - a sub $300 CD player (street price) the NAD 512 is a bargain! Recommended.
