Strength:

Sound airy and open, detail when the machine normal.

Weakness:

The failure of the servo circuit is a rather common phenomenon for the Tri-Vista SACD Player. The servo part is manufactured by Philips and is now out of production. It is highly likely that the machine cannot be repaired at all.

Just want to update other members of R33 regarding my recent discussion with MF’s dealer in Hong Kong. Spoken to the MF Services Department in Hong Kong this afternoon and the result is as follows:-

1. The repairman told me that they are trying to find the parts from UK. However, the factory in UK is on summer vacation now. Yes, you are NOT MISTAKEN. He said that the company on summer vacation and I still need to wait for another 2 to 3 weeks before the factory in UK can get back to him. More importantly, there is no guarantee whether spare parts can be found!!!

2. The repairman freely admitted that it is probably the servo circuit that causes the problem. The failure of the servo circuit is a rather common phenomenon for the Tri-Vista SACD Player. As pointed out by other R33 members, the servo part is manufactured by Philips and is now out of production. It is highly likely that the machine cannot be repaired at all.

3. A number of customers had brought back the machine for repair in the past few months. Some of the customers have sent the machine to AV Walkman for repair before contacting MF Hong Kong. Allegedly, not only the repairman in AV Walkman has failed to cure the problem, the guy has made the “situation” even worse. In any event, the manager of MF Hong Kong did make certain exchange offers to the customers. This is essentially in line of what other R33 members have encountered. With this kind of reliability track record, you can guess how many customers have actually accepted the offer!!!

4. The Hong Kong dealer is busy at preparing for the Hi-end show and the manpower is very tight. My point is, with this kind of customer service and corporate policy, how many people will still be interested in MF’s products. With product reliability like this, I think MF should focus more on the fundamentals rather than wasting money in the Hi-end show. Interesting, is it qualified to participate in the so-called Hi-end show in the first place?

To be fair, the repairman (Mr. Yu) himself is rather helpful and polite. However, what pisses me off is the way how MF Hong Kong and MF UK are handling the whole matter. According to its own internal repair record, they should have realized that there is an inherent defect in one of the key components in the Tri-Vista SACD Player. Let me reiterate my point here, the failure of the servo circuit is NOT an isolated incident. The defect simply “explodes” within a short period of time. Yet, they have so far done absolutely nothing to remedy the situation and simply pray that no more malfunctioned machines will land on their desks. Their after-sale service is close to non-existence. Accordingly, buying an MF product is just like to gambling your luck. All I can say is good luck to other MF product owners!!!

Customer Service

To be fair, the repairman (Mr. Yu) himself is rather helpful and polite.
