I am still breaking in the Musical Fidelity E-624 but I am impressed with the operation and sound so far. Sound from the player is impressive with a good separation, good bass, midrange, and treble. I have noticed that any imperfections with the CD recording are magnified with this player. Good recordings will shine with this unit. I traded in a Sony ES 10 disk CD changer and purchased the player from Audio Advisor. I would rate this unit 4.5 stars.

This is an excellent player I purchased from Audio Adviser for $600 as a demo (mint condition!) list price is $850. In my system, like everyone else I want
audiophile quality for minimum price.
In the eighties I used Rega Planar 3, then Linn LP12 turntable, switched to CD but couldn't afford audiophile CD at that time and used various Japan makes.
My setup now is Musical Fidelity E624 CD player, Musical Fidelity integrated amp, Kimber PBJ interconnect, Spendor SP1 monitor speakers (British classic from mid-late 1980s), Kimber 8TC speaker wire, Monster HTS 1000 power conditioner, speaker stands, equip rack etc.

What beautiful sounds this modestly priced system can make! Speakers disappear and 3D holographic soundstage
magically appears. Excellent depth and clarity, Kimber PBJ good match as Musical Fidelity has very natural relaxed sound, no "soft sounding" cables needed to mask system brightness.
Bass response that I never knew existed is now present, subltlest of details now present which makes music listening
so enjoyable. Female voice now has enhanced presence and air, like you are there live completely mesmorizing.

To sum up excellent value for money, yeah if you spend several thousand you
can get better, but I am budget audiophile, don't hesitate to check demo
items with Audio Advisor, much lower price still have 30 day return policy,
can't loose

Strength:

Primary: Timing
Secondary: Transparency, Details, Depth, Imaging, Musicality

Weakness:

Sound: None
Mechanism: Slow Access/Reading

I once thought that my Rotel 951 (HDCD, 18-bit) was by far the best value-for-money cd player currently available here in the Philippines. I was thrown into a denouement when I got introduced to the Musical Fidelity's E624 cd player, 24-bit/96KHz, dazzling in simplicity casing fashion! With the vow I made with my darling Rotel 951, I was bitterly reminded that humans always make wrong assumptions. Although I could always slyly an alibi that anyway - aberration is the hallmark of man, and that the longanimous placability and condonation are the indicia of supramundane omniscience, this time the pressure is strong enough to leave me dumbfounded.

Enter the cd player that humbled me: Musical Fidelity's Elektra E624. True enough, this 24-bit beast traduced my former 18-bit pet into oblivion. The E624 has a plethora of near-divine strengths, but the most obvious and profound is 'Timing' (or Rhythm/Pace) such that I started tapping my feet the moment my CD or Vinyl spinned. At that instant I forgot about my acquired "audiophile's egotistic syndrome" which is that of judging the sonic capabilities of an equipment that meets my eyes (and ears). Instead I found myself virtually immersed in music while I reach to the bottom of my CD/Vinyl bin thawing one after the other, in an effort to relieve the musical experience and talents of the musicians who are by now present in my listening room, taking turns to entertain me! All other primary indices such as Transparency, Depth, Imaging, and Musicality are met with aplomb by the slick E624.

At $850, this is the cheapest trick yet I know on how to make those singers/musicians stay in my abode - forever! Thanks and more power to Musical Fidelity!

Strength:

Transparency, tonal balance, seductive texture

Weakness:

Slow initial track number readout/access

Yes, Micob is right! This is a damn fine cd machine that comes aghastfully close to the vinyl sound. Being an owner of a Nottingham Spacedeck turntable, I can candidly say the E624 pumps out vinyl sound, minus vinyl deficiencies (noise). Look, Micob even says "...CD or Vinyl..." probably because he has forgotten which is which. I don't blame him. Analog bliss in cd convenience, at an unbelievable price! Kudos to Musical Fidelity indeed.

Highly recommended!
