The CD-46 from Marantz is the least expensive product in the Marantz's successful CD player line. However, at only $200, it doesn't lack of features, and it is build in high standard. In term of sound, it provides a very smoothand open sound. The high is almost the smoothest in that price range, and the
midband is generally open enough. It also provides good detail for the music. The only downside for this player is in the bass area which sounds a little too soft and warm for me. Otherwise, it is a solid product for the money. If Marantz
could provide a digital output for this player, it would be the best player
in the market(for under $200).

the cd-46 is good with treble and midrange, although it can sound a little bright at times. the only qualm must be the bass which is on the weak side but it has good control. all in all, a good product for the price. not for dance enthusiasts though.

I bought the CD-46 in 03/97 for the bargain price of £120/- (list: £ 180/- at the time) in the UK and have been patting myself on the back ever since.
At the price, and much higher ones, the 46 is great. The high end is fast, the mids bearable (I'm not a great fan of excessive mid-range) and the lows tight & hearty.

I'd recommend this player without hesitation to anyone who can't afford to spring for the CD-63 (like me).

It's a pity about the lack of digital outs. It would have been a nice touch, but maybe it's a bit much to expect at the price.
