I don't have any of the problems mentioned in the review below...
Rather, it's one of the best sounding CD players I have heard. I would have bought a single transport, but I wanted CD capacity and good sound. The H/K seemed like a good choice. I auditioned the FL8300 (with MK sat/sub+H/K AVR20ii) and the difference was like night and day. The 20bit filter helps with the clarity. Plus if you are bent on getting a seperate DAC, there is a digital out option.

If you've got the money to plunk down, this is a great CD player under $500--best one I've heard in this price range.

Two months of shopping and looking around for my first stereo led me to HK. I wanted a regular CD player that would match a good system and I pick HK. Not to bore you, I ended up buying the FL 8450 CD player for 218.50. They call this scratch-n-dent. This unit looked quite used with no big ugly marks but in good shape and plays music very well. The only thing that is cheaper and sounds better is the angels singing in heaven. Like most of the things I buy they end up going back to the repair shop soon or often. Like my Gateway 2000 computer, Northertelecom phone, '88 Jaguar and '96Honda autos, so what is new that this went back also. The reason is that it would stop playing in the middle of a song and sometimes not be able to find a CD after it dropped it on the tray. I brought it to United Radio in Syracuse and they fixed it in less then a day under warranty. Besides that, I love the player and for almost ½ price (list $399) it a steel. I'm using Paradigm monitor 5 speakers, excellent, even they had to go back to be fixed.
