This is one of the best classic CD player that built to last. It weights over 10KG, has a 4 20bit DAC array and a massive analogue stage. There is no doubt that it's a very good sounding CD player with all the high/mid/bass being there and mixed smoothly.

Compared to my later purchased Naim CD5i, it's not far behind at all. Maybe the only thing it lacks is some "european house sound", yes it is a relatively honest CD player which doesn't add anything to the music. That's is actually a good thing because you can get your "taste" on the amp and speaker, which is a better way.

Another good thing about this one is the typical DENON quality, it just lasts forever. Have it for more than 10 years and never a single problem occurs, the laser lens still reads all the disc i through in. Amazing!!!

Smooth sounding, never harsh or aggresive. Overall, a all rounder CD player in strength.

Lacks a little bite with instruments.

A much more detailed player than the Pioneer 904, better overall but slower dynamics, string intruments a little laid back. Bought it second hand for $300. No complaints, value for money. Internal construction is superb, shielded transformer.

Nice resolution in the upper frequencies.

I replaced my Denon DCD-1700 with this one. Big disappointment. I was supposed to be an upgrade to a new generation of CD players, but it came out as downgrade in all areas except for the highest of high frequencies.
The DCD-1700 was even a heavier and better built player, more aluminium and better buttons, despite the higher price of the DCD-2560.

The deep bass is not there at all. It's not as warm and analogue sounding as other Denon players to come out before and after it.

I've stuck with it for almost 10 years, I'm not sure why. I replaced it recently with a NAD T550 which easily outperfoms the Denon even though it's a DVD player.

Solid all around sound. Great build quality.

Sometimes a little muddy in sound.

I bought this cd player on clearance at United Audio for $399.99 in Fall of 1993. I am using this cd player w/a McCormack 0.5 amp, Lazraus Tube Pre and custom built Speakers. I think the best review I can give this CD player is that I attempted to replace it and could not find another player under $1200 that sounded better overall.

My system seems to play jazz better than rock, but once you get to this level you realize how badly recorded a lot of cd's are.

It is really built well and have no problems whatsoever. If you find a used one on the market, I would definitely pick it up.

I have used this player for seven years now, and I have never had any problems with it. It plays very well after all these years of service.I have tried several players in my system in the past years, and although there are players in the price range that outperform the 2560 in some aspects, it excells in overall sound quality.
It has a nice, open and fluid presentation, very dark background. The midrange is somewhat laid back.
The midrange is what this player does worst, cheaper models like the Marantz CD-63 has a much more vivid midrange, and violins looses much of their wooden character when played over the 2560. If your favourite is classical music with violins and stuff, don't buy this player, thats my advice.
It is very sensitive to mains noise. It sounded much better when I ran the mains through a shielded transformer. I tested it with a pair of headphones while playing a CD with no sound. Without the transformer there were a lot of background noise, a crackling sort of hiss. With it, it was completely silent.
If you own one, try it out.

The 2560 is a very comfortable cd-player. It sounds very detailed, but tends to smoothen the sound somehow. It is equipped with the Delta-SLC Filter, 2 excellent 20 Bit D/A Converters and both optical and Coax digital out and fixed variable analogue Outputs. Headphone output on the front and an IR-Remote with pitchcontroll.I bought it preowned for about 500$
It's a really great improvement agianst my old Marantz CD-46.
The connection with Audioquest Jade interconnect cables also did a great job.
