Strength:

Nice green & orange lights near CD player.

Weakness:

CD player screwed up.

This was a very nice-sounding (& looking) unit until the CD player (like the rest of you) didn''t work anymore. Fortunately a cuetip solved all my problems.

Strength:

Bought this system about 3 years ago and like everyone else The unit worked fine for about a year and a half then the cd player would only read 2 out of the 3 cd's, same problem on my brother's NSX-V70. Aiwa always had a good product reviews but this system is greatly flawed with respect to the cd player. The speakers have above average clarity for the price and the remote is good. Do yourself a favor and stay clear of Aiwa's unit they improve their quality. asamed is mini-system has above average low/mid level range it becomes disto

Weakness:

cd player

Stay far away from this model.

Great Sound

Weakness:

CRAP AIWA CD TRAY!!!!!

This is a great shame, because sound wise this mini system is a performer. However the CD trays on AIWA sytems are rubbish, the system i have is a NSX V710 slightly newer than the V70. My dad has a V70 my sister has NS202 and guess what every one of them has a CD Tray fault, they dont read CD's any more. My dad had his repaired but the problem returned. My AIWA system can never have its cd tray repaired due to the CRAP build quality. Do your self a favour and stay away from ALL AIWA SYSTEMS. Dont give them money so they can make more rubbish cd trays!

Strength:

Sound is very good.

Weakness:

Trouble with reading CDs after 1 year of use.

Thank you, thank you, thank you Robert. Hadn't used the CD part of my system in over a year but I just dismantled my system and tried canned air on the lens and it works like new now - even reads CDRs - not just regular CDs. This is great for me - although I know 4 other people with expensive AIWA systems who ditched them over the last couple years due to inability to read CDs after a short time. It's a shame they didn't try this first. This is poor quality control on AIWA's part - I wouldn't buy another AIWA system but this is wonderful for now. I would've rated it much higher if there had not been a year I was without the CD player - everything else works great.

Strength:

good sound for the size of the unit

Weakness:

CD player

Like most reviewers here, I had problems with my CD player after a couple of years. The CD player would spin, pick up a disc, spin and then drop the disc and move onto the next disc. This would continue around the circle. So, I lived without a CD player for the past year or so.

Finally fed up, I was searching the web for an Aiwa service centre and stumbled onto this website. I just tried Robert's cleaning suggestion and now I have a working CD player! THANKS!!!

Same story as everybody else, the CD player stopped working after 6 months.
I had it fixed at the AIWA repair center but the same thing happened a few months later. DO NOT BUY AIWA !!!
Pick anything else, trust the reviewers..

Strength:

Many Featuers like AI recording, DSP surround sound,
Karaoke, Microphone Mixing. Overall good sound.

Weakness:

I have had this system since 1995 and bought it for over $500
I couldn't believe all the reviews About the CD player!!
same problem.worked fine until June of 97 and The CD started
to skip and eventually would play..Mine was worse though..it would pick
up the cd..spin it,,then DROP it back in the tray still
spinning at full speed!! I sent it back to the Good Guys and
the repair center replaced the laser head assembly. It STILL
did not work properly (skipped and had wouldn't find the CD)
I lived with it for years until it finally died. Then the Cassette
when it would engage in auto reverse, it would just JAM and stay stuck
in the PLAY position. There was also noticable POPPING in
the right speaker from the casette motor (I think) I gave up
on it finally and bought a SONY MHC-MC1..MUCH better sounding
and more reliable. Cleaning the lense DID NOT HELP.

It has a great remote with nice editing featuers for recording
CD to tape. The sound output was decent but not spetacular.
The CD was Probably flawed in some wayin all
units from manufacture. So be careful if you see
a used one in a store or if a friend wants to give it away to you
for FREE!

Cd player until i cleaned the cd lens,

Ok i had the exact same problem with everybody elses but i am probably the only one who was smart enough to clean the cd lens you know if you let something sit in one place long enough its gonna get some dust on it. I cleaned off the lens with a pressured air duster can. And its working like a charm i traded my playstation for it so it works perfect. I just recently dusted the whole system when i took it apart. Trust me dont spend hundreds of dollars sending it to some idiot who puts a stronger power cord going to the cd player its all in the lens buddy if you clean the lens it will be only another 3 yrs until it gets dusty again.

CD Player died after 2 months.

This product is not mine but belonged to my mother. She is like every 57 year old and beyond, scared to death of technology. She very rarely listened to CDs because of that. For the first couple of months the CD player on the unit worked fine. Then she got some CDs for her birthday and decided to use it and the CD would get picked up, spin, drop, and then shift to the next CD. It would continue until it didn't see any CDs in the player and then stop. I tried cleaning the laser head with a CD cleaner. Then I tried cleaning it by taking off the screws and using a q-tip. I used some compressed air that I use for my computer. It didn't work, the CD still is not being recognized by the player. I highly recommend to everyone that you stay away from Aiwa POS. Sony is a sister company of Aiwa. However, Sony's work and Aiwa doesn't. Although, I have been reading on this site that people have been having problems with Sony DVD players reading DVDs. What good is a product if the damn thing doesn't work. STAY AWAY FROM AIWA!!

I had the same CD problems. Thanks to all the posters whose suggestions gave me the confidence to pry it open and clean the laser with q-tips. Mine was unbelievably dusty and is now totally functional. Thanks again. Gotta praise the internet on this one...
