Kimber Kable OPT1 Toslink digital cable Video/Digital Cables

Kimber Kable OPT1 Toslink digital cable Video/Digital Cables

DESCRIPTION

Construction of the OPT-1 begins with medical-grade light conducting fiber. The fiber is then encapsulated in a thermal barrier that inhibits heat warping of the light-carrying fiber. A mechanical damping outer barrier is also applied to further protect the cable from damage. The ends are then cold-polished helping to further reduce the incidence of reflections.. With such excellent light transfer characteristics, the result is a sound with is full, relaxed, and transparent.

Strength:

Kimber name, flexibilty

Weakness:

thin midrange with screechy highs

I am forced to use a Toslinkcable in my high end car system. I have a Sony ES10 disc changer with Toslink output. The Toslink goes to a Monarchy DIP MKII and then AES/EBU via a D.H. Labs D-110 to a Theta Digital Basic IIIA DAC. The winner of the three cables above was clearly the Optichord. The Kimber was very thin sounding with screechy highs. The Monster Cable had a clear high end which initially seemed superior to the Optichord. However, further listening revealed excessive brightness and congestion in busy passages. The Optichord is more relaxed and lifelike. Optichord 5 stars Highly recommended!!!

Strength:

Simplicity of function & design

Weakness:

None

I am not that enamored with optical cables, but use this one for my satellite receiver's AC3 output.

I used to have the chintzy $40 one Monster puts out..Lightspeed 100? Give me a break..
It has this fragile plastic sleeve over the end of the cable, that I don't know if it's supposed to offer protection or just be a nusiance.

The Kimber has a simple solid termination that make a good connection. It was on sale for the same $40!

Strength:

Kimber quality

Weakness:

With Kimber?? You have to be kidding.

I can not recommend Kimber any higher. They are top quality and have been for over 20 years. If you are going to spend $50 for and optical cable, why not with one of the best? Monster has crap for the same price. Use Kimber in every connection you can and you won't go wrong. 5 stars all the way

Strength:

Far superior to freeby toslink

Weakness:

jack sh**

Connected between Cambridge Audio discmagic and Meridian 203 dac7, the freeby toslink never compared to a quality 75Ohm. Changing to the Kimber has cleaned up the midrange and made treble less exposed. It is preferable (in my system) to electrical connection. I am not making a judgement on the overall differences between 75Ohm and toslink, but in my combo it sounds best. Far, far superior to sony's freeby.
